1993 w124 estate lowering question

Hi all

Im planning on lowering my w124 estate car, I have a few questions regarding the rear suspension.

I understand that the car has self-leveling rear suspension, Would I be right in thinking that if I fit shorter rear springs, the self leveling system will be fooled into thinking the car has weight in it and will lift the rear back up to the standard ride height ?

Can I reset the self-leveling valve to the lower ride height ?

Can I do away with the self-leveling shocks and fit saloon rear shocks and springs?

If I do away with the self-leveling rear shocks what do I do with regards to the pump etc?

Cheers in advance

Danny

you can choose the required base setting you require by adjusting the levelling link to roll bar.

Personally I would leave it alone or adjust the self leveling valve until it sits on springs but it won't change your life get a louder stereo or a bigger hat.

may I suggest you keep your opinions to yourself.

you do what you like to your car and I will do what I like to mine.

I thought that might be the case, would iI be better fitting the shorter springs and then adjusting the link with the car up on the ramp?

Thanks

Danny

you will have difficulty sourcing shorter springs, so just adjust the base level and then buy shorter front springs OR change the front pads to lower, so that both ends of car match.

The rear self leveling shock absorbers function as springs to a certain extent which means the rear springs have a different rating to the non-self-leveling ones in the saloon and Coupe. As suggested if you lower the front with shorter springs the self leveling valve which operates off the rear anti roll bar should adjust the rear ride height to compensate--- but there are limits to the effective operating range of all these components- self leveling shocks included.
