W126 wheel upgrade

Hi all,

Just a quick question:

I have bought some 8-hole Mercedes alloys from an SL (225/55R16) to replace the standard steel wheels on my W126 300SE. I have got replacement bolts and 10mm spacers all round (offset of new wheels is ET34 compared to ET25 on standard). While the fronts fit like a dream, the rears are refusing to go on, and there is no hub for them to centre on with the 10mm spacers. The question really is, can the rears be fitted without the spacers or could this cause problems with the brakes? Any help appreciated.

Sound like very nasty spacers! Put the wheel on without and check the clearance from the brakes to the back of a spoke, and look underneath to see if the rim/tyre is close to any suspension component. then jack up, place brick underneath wheel and lower the car and check again.

hi george...when i upgraded my wheels u have to watch the bolt size what ever bolts u use make sure if u look through the holes on the disc that the hand brake mechanism is clear because if the bolts are to long and u hit that u damage (been there) i have 6ml spacers on mine but the hole on spacer has to fit perfect round the hub if its bigger then they dont sit true and u got wheel shudder)) what ever u do make ***** u can turn wheel by hand first to make sure everythings free...xx

Just wanted to say a huge thanks to gangsta se and Murray Systems for their advice. With a bit of tinkering (plus help from a mate with a mod garage) wheels now fitted with 6mm spacers at the rear to clear handbrake, no spacers needed on the front.

It's amazing what a difference it makes to the look and feel, pictures to follow when I get chance.

Hi, great to know all worked out well. I too bought some 8hole but for my W126 SEC. When it is back from the garage next month I'll be looking to put them on again. First attempt failed horribly and is the reason why it is in the garage... rear wheel came off

Regards
Sham
