Advice: tyres for W208 CLK

Hi..

Need advice for the 'budget' end of the tyre market here. Its the missus's CLK 200, on a standard 205/55 16"

My choices for around 50 pounds each fitted are:

1. Pirelli P6000
2. Dunlop SP 01
3. Dunlop SP 2000

Car will be mainly for town use, nothing serious. Emphasis on comfort and wear will be an advantage.

cheers

Goodyear Hydragrip came top in Autocar's tyres test, and number 2 in AutoExpress. 2 of my mates have installed them (E320 124 coupe, and BMW 3 series), and think they are great.

Been enquiring about tyres today, chatting with the parts stores manager of the stealership, have got p6000 fitted but find them very soft and wear quite easily, he rang a tyre dealership head office for me, enquiring on suitable replacement, Dunlop are more hard wearing than Pirellie p6000 was told, then we went on to further re the budget range, well my p6000 are around the hundred mark [215 55 15]. Kumho and Wanli tyres, not knowing anything about Kumho except a friend of mine has them fitted on his e320 cdi and finds them ok. Wanli tyres are well known for use by taxi drivers for hard wearing, longer life and knocking around the town, anyway got a few weeks of wear left on all four as inspected by the tyre place today before I make up my mind. Wanli price out each at 59 quid fitted. Kumho around the same price

I have heard a few times of this tyre size (215/55R16) being fitted. All the information I have suggests that 205/55R16 is the size for narrow 16" rims, and 225/50R16 for the wider 8" rims. Unless the 215 size is specified in your handbooks, it may have been fitted by a supplier not carrying the correct size. has anyone consulted their handbooks?

20/55/16 are used on clk and c-class as they are 7" wide rims. E-class is a 7.5" wide rim ans has 215 55 16.

The 5 double spoke Electra (optional alloys) that I had initally speced for my car were 7J front and 8J rear - the MB literature for alloy accessories from the Stealer stated that the front should be 215/50/16 and rears 225/50/16 BUT my car was delivered with 225/50/R16 all round from factory and MB Tech confirmed that that the wider tyres were perfectly acceptable to be fitted to the front (overall made the car look more aggressive...). Therfore 225/50/16 can be fitetd to 7J as well...

Did you ever see the MB Tech document?
Are all these MB Tech notices published somewhere?

Got some Wanli XL fitted the other day,[ 215 55 16] 50 quid +, plus valve and balance, they are very very quite noise wise, they are supposed to be hard wearing as well, they feel good, they feel better than the P6000 tyres, the tyres are directional, I'm happy with them, suppose the main test is in the rain as yet to come, I don't do motorways just plod around the local area.
Wanli is a fairly new tyre company think it only set up in 1995.

I did not see tech documents myself but when I had enquired Technical Support confirmed that becasue I had paid extra for the upgraded alloys from factory 225/50/16 could be fitted to the front as well (and thats what they did). They did put confirmation of the tyre spec for my vechile in writing though upon request and confirmed it was all legit. However, if u go down Stealer accessory route then they for some reason spec smaller tyre size for front (7J) whoch at first confused hell out of me which is why I contact tech support.
