Isn't that just a non-fancy name for anthracite?

PS I just go for what the supplier had listed - plenty of choice, but no gunmetal

If you mean get them slightly lighter, that should be possible, I guess.

Thanks!

It was the great job you did on your calipers, that inspired me
And I bought the Ed1 caps after seeing yours

GLK I feel a bit guilty as my calipers came red as standard on the A250, although mine was looking a bit tatty all I did was to tart them up with some touch up paint and then added the ED1 caps

Was looking for a black set and you can get them really cheap seen some around £20 now, think I paid 48 quid for my red set I bought about 8 months ago, don't you just hate that lol

And I agree with you GLK silver is a bit to bright, I'd go for a darker colour with your car it'll make it more sleek in my opinion.
But each to their own, I'm sure what ever you decide on it'll look good.

Ah, I see LOL - It was inspirational nonetheless

I do remember seeing yours after touch-up and thinking: well, mine are the same as your rear ones and it looks great, so might as well go for it, as before seeing yours I thought these are just too small to paint red (visually, before someone explains about brush sizes)...

I'm pretty much settled on high gloss medium-dark grey (i.e. anthracite) - will ask the guys if they can up the aluminium flake content, to make it a bit more metallic, otherwise quite happy with the appearance.

Many thanks to everyone for their helpful advice!

Possibly, but I meant lighter

They seem to be a little too dark, a colour in between the silver and anthracite would work better IMO.

Not really simplifying the choice here

Oh, absolutely - I do agree.

But the above picture is just my mockup in photoshop.
I actually think the real colour is slightly lighter, particularly the high gloss variant:

Anyway, I'll ask the chap before placing the order.

Looks great! Great choice of wheels by the way, never seen them on an A Class before.

Thanks

The 18" AMG type-III wheels are factory option actually (791), together with sports suspension (486) which is required for them to fit, I believe - my car is a C169 Avantgarde Sports CVT Coupe.

Pretty good spec, even got a subwoofer in the spare wheel, and extra speakers in salon - whoever ordered it, ticked all the boxes, apart from folding mirrors (why not?) and COMAND (which would've been NTG2 anyway). Going to retrofit mirrors at some stage, and probably NGT2.5 - if only for the rear cam and music on SD card ...

Anyway, rather pleased with the car, it's now 19 months since I bought it, still only 36.5k on the clock

PS The wheels look exactly like the ones from C and E classes, but the offset is a massive 54mm, so only these A-specific ones can be used.

Well, thanks again to everyone for their input - it's done!

It might have taken me year and a half, since I bought the car, but I can finally say: goodbye corroded, buckled (all 4, one really badly!), kerbed (okay, only 1), and tired looking wheels, hello new shiny ones:

As I said above, the wheels are exactly the same as my original ones - 18" AMG type-III, but they were done in high gloss, light anthracite.
Even the weights are powder coated.
Impressed

Once the new wheels were on, I fitted the new centre caps, chrome stem covers and black (brass) valve dust caps.

Very pleased with the whole thing ... Well worth the 130 miles round trip, although I do hope I won't have to drive to London again

Apologies for the state of the car - some roads were still wet...

.
.

PS I seriously dislike the silly resizing feature on this forum - even 800pix is too big now? - had to reduce to 700pix, to get rid of the annoying yellow band

Wheels look great! I'm not sure if the centre caps suit them... You must be over the moon with the new set though.

Thanks, yes - very pleased.

I like the centre caps - they're visually supported by the red calipers, and in keeping with overall appearance ...

Main thing is that you're happy!

This reminds me that I should paint my calipers

As a little footnote for this thread - it was suggested that, this would be a perfect time to protect the newly refurbished wheels, so today I washed them, dried thoroughly, wiped with alcohol, and treated with GTechniq C5:

On a side note, it was reassuring to see MTEC's flagship brake discs able to rust in less than two hours

I'll be going for a 'lets brake a lot' drive tomorrow, to get rid of all that rust.
