Nice car, shame about the exhaust tips, you would think having spent lots of money on a stainless system he would have gone for something else like twin oval etc...

Yes, looks very nice, especially if you plan to move to europe, or spend a lot of time there....

But again, I'm sorry, it's a 19 year old car with the best part of 200,000 miles on the clock, and after all it's only a w124 with a V8, hasn't even got a sunroof, (and I think with all that power under the hood, weight is really note an issue).

And one more thing, I consider a starting bid of 5 grand a reserve, no reserve means no reserve.....

But it's really nice, if I had 5 grand spare I might be tempted, but I know after 5 or 6 months I would get sick of the steering being on the wrong side, a real nightmare!

Cheers, Bill.

The mileage is 210,000 km which is only 130,000 miles. It is hardly run in!

It is so much more than "only a W124 with a V8" because every aspect of the engine, transmission and running gear was very significantly changed from the production W124. This is a hand built (by Porsche) thoroughbred high performance car with all the space and comfort of the W124 body.

If it sells for anything close to the starting price it will be a bargain.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. What is very significantly different about a 500E from a normal W124 and a 5.0L M119 engine seen in other models?

The M119 was retuned to give greater torque in the W124 than any other application.

But that wasn't my point; the E500 powertrain and chassis were very significantly different to those of any previous W124. So I say again:

>It is so much more than "only a W124 with a V8" because every aspect
>of the engine, transmission and running gear was very significantly
>changed from the production W124.

If you wish to dispute that statement, please provide some factual basis for your argument.

I'm asking you to qualify your statement. What are the very significant changes you mention?

d_w124 - where does your torque figure come from? E500.org claims 354lbft - Carfolio 347lbft. There's a dyno print of 360lbft but power is only 300bhp. Even so - you're looking at a minimal peak increase. Hardly very significant is it and certainly not worth a .

It couldn't be more obvious. There was no production w124 with a 5.0 litre V8, and virtually every part of the powertrain and chassis was unique to the 500E. Try replacing those 500E components with those from a production W124 and you would not get very far.

What the 500E was not was a production W124 with a V8 engine. That's what you seem to be implying, and that is just plain wrong.
