Thats a lot of car for £8200 and a good turn around if he gets £12K (which I also thought was a good price)

no but it was provisionally sold.. it means the vendor will consider the bit but most likely will want closer to the book value.. so we dont really know what he paid.

And what is the book on these Jay? Have been trying to convince my brother of the logic of getting one of these rather than the CLS he fancies

So much car for the money even at £12,000....but what a bargain at auction.

£10K buys you so much car. I'm going to have to take a day off and go down there. It's years since I've been to an auction, they used to be horribly seedy places it all seems so much more business like now.

At £8200 provisional I reckon it might have gone for that after the auction or more likely a bit more (£9000??), plus buyers premium, plus vat (not sure on this auction but the last i went to premium was 15% premium and 15% VAT). Even assuming the buyer paid the provisional price, with premium and tax he could easily have paid around £10600+.

Fair enough,

I still thought that would be good at £12995, so get it for £12500?

He may even offer some sort or warranty? even if not at least as a private buyer you ave some come back from a trader more so than buying direct from the auction.

Just looks 'q' car ish and compared to my bus would be ok on fuel, or at least no worse but the bonus of it being a V8

You only pay VAT on the auction fee not the sale price. So, say it went for £8500 plus 4% trade buyers fee plus vat is a grand total of around £ 8981.
Occasionally the auctioneer declares a car vat qualifying .In that case there would be vat due on the sale price. This can be claimed back in the normal way if you are vat registered.
The safest buy at auction is of course a 2 year old lease car with the balance of the manufacturers warranty remaining.
Avoid older private lots with automatic gearboxes as these often have gearbox problems.
