190 cossy

Just watched a programme on sky called wheeler dealer, it featured a 87 2.3 cosworth that they bought for £2700 and fitted new exhaust, tyres, suspension bushes and then sold it for £3500 (breaking even). It was a very straight honest car,,anyway, just out of interest I thought id have a look at what ebay had to offer in the way of cosworths and blow me the owner is selling the very same car,,if theres anyone in the market for a nice cossy then this is it,,,someones fitted a hideous sec grill sinse the programme but thats easy to rectify

I remember seeing this for sale on eBay about a month after it was first screened. I was very tempted to bid then! That Edd China is very knowledgable indeed. As Mike Brewer would say 'Good work fella!'

Without wanting to sound snobbish, it's not a very good example IMO

Being a 2.3 model it has the weaker design timing chain engine which can be costly to fix when they cause trouble.

Although they mean well when they 'fix up' on the program, he's ruined the suspension - non-original shocks which were not correct fitment for this model. It's sitting much too high (as you can see in the pictures), and from memory, didn't he remove/disconnect the self-levelling rear suspension?

The grille is hideous, the front indicators and side repeaters are non-original, the steering wheel is not a genuine MB wheel either?

The plug cover is missing from the engine, there's a badge on the boot that shouldn't be there, stereo looks tacky...

I'll get my coat

Will,
I have to agree with you, I would have thought that originality in these cars is important. How much do you think it will go for?

I'd say that to me, personally, it's not worth much more than the current bid amount, let alone what it 'sold' for on the program (£3500)

I've seen better cars for less than that

I've never really known much about these cars TBH, but am getting to like them more by the minute. There are not many others on Ebay either. I fancy a swap

I think the car looks as if it has been fitted with stock springs as its really jacked up like a stock 190

I remember watching that programme. All he did was change the exhaust, mess with the suspension and give it a wash. Oh, I seem to remember he changed the stereo and put new tyres on too .

I bet the seller thinks he's going to make a killing on the back of its tv appearance.

I'm firmly in the 'original is best' corner.

The only place an SEC grille looks good is on the nose of an SEC.

Forgive me Father Will is right the rear shocks were changed for cheaper non standard products.

If I were going to buy a 190E then I would want a kosher version.

Sorry,
John

Even better then

It was a good wash, though!
