If you think that the Crown Estate is in fact public property, then surely the same goes for any land received by privilege i.e. not bought by money for market value price by the Landlord or it's ancestors? That would be an interesting reform... we could bring over Mugabe to run it for us.

Spending may or may not be less now than it was before, I don't know but neither do you. What I'm trying to say is that you can't issue figures you "believe" to be correct without the proper facts or evidence. Do your homework and come back with some ratified figures and then your arguement may hold more substance. By the way my knee is always bent for Queen and Country |

The bulk of our urban population are there because they were thrown off the land by the clearances in Scotland, enclosure in England and by starvation in Ireland. Its not much of an issue now but if people need to grow their own food in the future because of sky high food prices it will be again. |

Inequality can generate frustration, a sense of unfairness, and deep despair in those who are less fortunate.
It is also the driving force behind peoples' ambitions to better themselves (and benefit the larger community as a whole they do so). It's a double-edged sword, really... |

A Republic with a worn out politician still clinging to some sort of power as President :
Think failed MP Patten Last Governor of Hong Kong, after losing an Election & not being returned to Parliament as an MP can't think what sinecure he enjoys now President ? "Lord or Lady" Kinnock, one time firebrands of Socialism, he from school to sinecure in the EU & now to the once slagged off House of Lords. Her Ladyship ??? Presidential candidates ? Prescott, who once derided & swore he would never, like the above, become a member of "their Lordship's House" President ? There must be a huge scattering of other "politicians" of all flavours, who would gladly like to cling to some power..this Lib Dem Chap (I know innocent until until proven guilty) points on Wif'es D/L now up for Perverting the Course of Justice, the ex wife as well. Power corrupts they say & all those above are open to it arn't they. False claims on expenses etc etc HMQ doesn't need the £.s.d. or the close family & if anyone is found out doing something iffy the 4th estate are there in a flash Or the present Constitutional Monarchy, with all it's flaws & contradictions ? A continuing thread of our history, about which this country weaves it'self perchance ? The Armed Forces & The Police Forces swear allegiance to the reigning Monarch, not to the "country & President or Presidential type body who continues to weal power & influence or a partisan nature.

We don't even need an elected President, as its ceremonial it could be carried out by the Speaker. And yes it is quite wrong that servicemen and women are required to swear allegiance to the Windsors rather than to the nation.

You swear allegiance to the King/Queen and your country Wes. Not just the King or Queen.
I am proud to have served my Queen Wes, and have defended you on behalf of her and my country. You see we are taught tolerance in the Armed Services. |
