Arrow SLR McLaren Edition

SLR McLaren Edition

Mercedes-Benz SLR Mclaren is back. Yes, the vehicle has returned to show certain competitor how the performance-delivering job is done. McLaren will bring a total of 25 new units to the market under the McLaren SLR Edition name, as autoblog Germany reports.

The reborn hypercar will come with a refreshed exterior that will allow it to demonstrate its potential even when standing still. The vehicle has been gifted with a redesigned front bumper that comes with oversized air intakes a new type of mesh grille. The side air vents also use a new layout, coming with a rounded shape. The aerodynamic tweaks are completed by a new rear diffuser.

The vehicle, which comes to the market one year after the production has ended, was displayed at the Essen Motor Show. However, McLaren did not release any info about the car, so we are still waiting for an official confirmation of the project. This is pretty unusual, as the development could be considered some sort of a customer tuning project, but we really have to wait and see before giving a verdict.

It seems that the SLR’s tech side has remained unchanged, which means that we’ll get the same supercharged 5.4 literV8 powerplant that delivers 626 hp and a peak torque of 780 Nm (575 lb-ft). We’ll remind you that the engine sends the power to the rear wheels via an automatic five-speed AMD Speedshift transmission. The unit allows the car to complete the 0 to 62 mph sprint in 3.8 seconds and offers it a top speed of 333 km/h (207 mph).

Total sales were 615 units in 2005, 261 units in 2006, and 275 units in 2007, falling well below Mercedes-McLaren's goal of selling 500 units annually

If they sold it for half the price there would be a greater uptake. Lovely motor

its a car with a tweaked 55k kompressor engine for £300k with a 5 speed auto. I am not seeing the value. Dont get me wrong its a splendid car but overpriced.

I can see where you are coming from but in actual fact, at 300 it is a bargain in many ways when you compare it to other hypercars. Only the parts bin interior lets it down.

It is not simply a tweaked 55k engine. It is masterpiece that has had a 20% power uplift yet is so untempremental you have to boot it now and again to remind yourself what it is about.

The depth of engineering really shines through when you get up close.

The noise is worth the price alone!

If they made a RHD version of the SLR then the sales figures could have been a bit better. I would have loved to have owned one but could never come to terms with buying and driving a Left Hooker.

To be honest Matt it is rarely an issue. With roof up the roadster has a fairly large blindspot but the coupe is better. The only time it bothers me is in multistorey car parks

This car was at Brooklands 2 days ago, it really does stand out, looks much more aggressive than 'standard' SLR. The noise is something else.
