Not a Defection As Such...

... but under the spell of two mistresses now...

They both have completely different personalities. As much as I enjoy the comfort, toys, and effortless driving of the E class, the Poker gives so much.

So, like me, you have mother's shopping trolley and daddy's toy - just as it should be!

No, having to park on the grass was the justification for getting a 4S (4x4)

Very nice indeed. A 911 is an itch I still have to scratch, that one looks like just the ticket.

Cheers,

Gaz

Like the way the Merc has the drive with dropped kerb and the Beetle bumped up the kerb...

Yes, I need to get in touch with the local gypo crowd, I think...

Oh yes, she is indeed. Right at the point where the E class simply refuses to have fun (as capable as it is under duress), the 911 has just started to open up. I took it up to 8500RPM down a deserted bypass this evening and the scream is literally a banshee wail of delight. Youtube does not do this justice. Nothing can compare with the feeling of the steering going light when the front end starts to lift under heavy acceleration.

You have no lived if you've not taken a 911 through it's paces. It's a drive unlike anything else. Pure, raw, animal, but with heart.

It's the same with the 3 litre four pot front engines, particularly in the cabriolet with the roof down. We have a superb road from Appledore to Rye called the Military Road ('cos it runs along the Royal Military Canal) - 300 yard straights then a chicane, for about 3 miles. Guaranteed to get herself digging fingernails into the sides of the passenger seat (like yesterday afternoon!) and put a massive silly grin on the driver's face - especially as you can often see through the chicane and really boot it on the way out - magic!!). Redline my tip (Promax chip so 7100 not 6800) and don't have to take my hands off the wheel, even in manual she changes up when you hit the red line. Love my toy!!

^ yesterday I had a passenger ride in a 968 16v - really impressed with the additional power it has vs my 944 S2 - got me wondering about a cylinder head swap. But then the stopwatch showed it was only 0.5s a lap faster than me, so might hold on to my £ a while longer. Like you, loving the Porsche experience so far.

?968 16v?? The only front engined denoted 16v I know of is the 944S 16V - I had one for a year or so, lovely if you keep the revs above about 4k but absolute rubbish in "normal" driving. Had a 968 coupe for 12 1/2 years and my cab for 12 months now, love the 968, I believe the 944S2 comes close but without the variocam - and with 6 gears in the manual rather than 5 in the S2 - many prefer the 968. Personally, I love the tip - only 4 gears, but 2nd is so long (tops out at 80+) as is 3rd (tops out at licence loosing speed!) that I would never go back to a manual.

I thought the turbo was 8v?

It was more the comparison of the 944 S2 3.0 vs 968 3.0 variable valve that I was referring to
