Wink ML Third Row Seat Belts Question

Hello Everyone

Hoping some members have already fitted third row seats. Being a female im not very mechanically minded/knowledgable and would very much appreciate any advise or help on the following before purchasing anything else. I Just bought a pair of 3rd row fold up seats of E-bay, for my 2000 (W) ML270 CDi Auto Estae. So that i can fit more of my grandchildren (I have 8) into the car. Can anyone please tell me if the seat belts I need to get/buy ar just normal ML ones or are they different to the norm and also do i need any other fittings to fit the seats or will the seats just slot into the fittings in the boot. Thanks in advance.

The seat belts for the 6th & 7th seats are specifically designed for those seats. They aren't the same as any other seat belts in the car.

You'll have to fit the mounting brackets on the inner wheel arch for the two seat mounted arms to attach to. Unless your car was ordered new with the third row of seats the brackets won't already be installed. Many ebay sellers mislead buyers by saying or implying the brackets are already there. They are not.

The 'C' pillar cover is different but you can get away with cutting your existing cover to allow the seat belt to pass through & you'll need to install the overhead hooks the seats hang from when lifted up.

I think that's about it unless you want to go the whole hog & install pop out rear windows, which would be expensive.

Ignor the text box and arrows that was for something else...

You will need the ancher points on the floor and specific seat belts for the car. Also the Grab handle also has a seperate part where the seat clips onto and is pulled tight. You can just see the clips on the left hand seat where the seat clicks in and allows it to rotate in position.

Might be wrong but I'm pretty sure all W163 MLs have the anchor points on the floor built in.

Anchor points are built in, but nothing else is!

Hi A210AMG... I am planing next week to buy a ML270 2002 or 2003, and installing the third row in it. I need some help and suggestions... where I can get the third row seats (folded or flat) and is there any user manual installation PDF that I can use to install them.
I really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you neilrr.
I found a ML270 with gray interior seats, and I think they can be gray, or any other colour... I just wanted to know if I can find those seats and make sure to buy the car. I don't know if there are any instructions to install them... any picture instructions.

I've got a set of dark grey 3rd row seats, the seat belts, the side mounting brackets that the seats hinge on & swing up on & all the bolts, nuts, screws etc to fit the same. If you're interested post up an email address & I'll send you photos etc.

I don't know where you can get written or pictorial instructions to fit them but I can tell you how I've removed them in the past.

The actual fitting of the brackets & seat belts is a doddle, the only minor hassle is removing the trim covering in the boot area. All MLs come with the bolt holes & bolts for these seats already in place.

To remove the various pieces of the boot area trim covering first of all push the second row of seats as far forward & out of the way as they'll go. Then, start at the back door & pull off the rubber boot seal which goes all the way around the boot opening. Make a mark on the seal & the shell so it goes back in exactly the same position. (IIRC you will also need to pull off part of the back door seal but leave that until you get up there.) Then start at the floor level at the boot opening, pop up the line of plastic grommets & undo the screws holding down the little kick plate floor panel. After that it's pretty much a case of just going along & removing nuts or screws or bolts as you encounter them, being careful not to force anything. If a panel or piece of trim does not come away easily then you've missed something holding it in place. There's nothing hidden or awkward to get to & it really is straightforward.

The mounting brackets fit onto the inner rear wheel arches & held on by two bolts & 3 nuts, the seat belts by three bolts. All the holes & bolt studs for these are already in place so you can't really go wrong.

I've found it really helpful to have a biggish piece of cardboard to stick or fix all the covering nuts & bolts to in the order they came off so to make putting them back foolproof.

If you are half way handy I reckon the whole thing can easily be done in less than a couple of hours.

I've spoken with Luxury7 in the past and franky there's a lot involved in getting the rears seats installed not to mention the safety issue of having everything done properly.

Unfortunately MLs with the family pack are not common and there are some great 5 seater examples around so i understand the problem. I fortunately found a great 7 seater example as the hassle and expense of conversion was a real turn off.

Neilrr do you still have those seats. If not do you know any one who has them? I would really appreciate a valid response.
