Pain in the "Neck Pro"

I want to upgrade my E55 (2000) to a either an E63 or a CLK63. After test driving these with my other half I got a big thumbs down. When in the passenger seat, my partner sits upright with her head against the headrest, but her back is not against the seat. The headrests only seem to adjust up or down and only by a limited amount. When driving, any sudden acceleration caused her to go back into the seat with her head forward. I understand that these "neck pro" headrests are wired in and that MB dealers won't touch them. Apparently they were introduced in 06.

Has anyone had similar problems or changed these headrests? At this rate I may have to change makes which is a shame as I like AMGs.

Interesting you mention this. ST4 has exactly the same issue with his W211 and can't get comfortable.

Has the headrest been actuated? Has the neck-pro been triggered and the headrest is now in it's forward position?

Tolly: Leaving the other half at home wouldn't go down too well

Dieselman: when I was looking at an E63 in the showroom -the rep did say that this was an issue for a few customers

Whitenemesis: no- the neck-pro headrests stick far more than standard headrests even in their non-triggered state

Latest is - going to look at another CLK63 - with a pillow!

Colingo, what colour combination is your 2000 e55? Facelifted one I guess?

Just for amusement:

I've had a 1984 2.8i Capri since new, originally as a company car. It was delivered with a mysterious pad, about the size of a small Jiffy bag and finished in the same fabric as the Recaro seat inserts. The dealer didn't know what it was for and neither did anyone else.

Roll the clock on 20 years and I discovered the very same pad on eBay, and the vendor explained that it was to shove behind the backrest fabric to provide exactly the sort of back support colingo's other half needs. The irony of this is that the car was dry stored for 13 years because I couldn't use it . . . because of a back problem.

Roger -sounds a bit like my other half, a chronic back problem. I'm going to try to sort out neck-pro by either an additional back pad or totally replacing neck-pro headrests. On the plus side they don't seem to be as bad as an E63 or CL63
