Whats wrong with the seat? as in is the seat base worn? or back? or bolsters worn?
The seat is made up of the sprung frame resting on two rubber/foam blocks at the front, two rubberised coconut fibre pads to which the seat facings attach. The seat facings then have some felt lined foam in them too in removable inserts. Last edited by fuzzer; 27-04-2011 at 11:07 PM. |

Here is a picture of what the coconut fibre bases look like
the top half is about £110 and the bottom about £90 The base shows the rubberised foam inserts one on each side. These make the seat feel really tight again. The new pads will make it very firm and factory fresh. see my thread on my own W202 seats for more info ![]() http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/inter...-retrofit.html |

That's looking pretty useful info fuzzer, its the seat base that is a bit saggy and a 5 hour drive back from glasgow at the weekend was getting pretty painful for my backside. I'll have to strip mine down and see what's what.

You will ideally also need a BIG pair of long nose pliers to do the clips and release/restretch the covering back onto the base. Like these would make it easier, but not really required. They all appear to be of a similar construction of that time. Most likely the internal springs have broken - easiest solution is to find a passenger seat from a donor car as this will be hardly sat in , and use the base to repair yours .
The cover from your own seat can be re-used so colour does not matter . |

My drivers seat after 200k was so low that the lumber support was moving toward my shoulders time to do something. lenghtening my back was not an option. I followed Pontoneers helpful guidance bought a passenger seat and swapped over the seat base with springs and the coconut horse hair pads as well as the fibre ones. My seat has the pneumatic pads as well as heating and all electric. It was some job probably the most difficult part was getting he clips through the underpadding back onto stiffening wires in the leather top - which locates the cover. Anyway all done and a magical improvement. I can now lower the seat as well as raise it, before it was always had to be set high.
