I bought my m3 back from there 8 years ago, I had no problems what so ever. Cost £25 for a UK plate, just make sure you have proof of purchase.

Longer answer is that since the collapse of the pound MB have not put up UK prices (Ford have done so three times in the last few months alone). If you go to the MB international site you can price up the car you want in Germany in Euros. Then check with your bank the best Euro exchange rate you can get (they won't give you the rate on the money exchanges that you can find in the FT etc). I think you will find it a lot dearer in Germany. I priced up an E class estate on the MB website to find the price in Calais, in Euros. It was hugely dearer than here. In the car mags you will find companies who will do it all for you for quite modest fees. But the import trade has largely died since the pound went south. By European law, dealers in Europe must let you order RHD and car-makers must supply in reasonable time. Your definition of reasonable may not be the same as theirs.
