Used car values ?

Does anyone have any links to sites or "glasses guides" types for valuing cars ?

Specifically I'm just interested to get a feel as to what mine is worth atm - both a typical trade in and a private sale price :

March 07 C200 CDI Sport Edition, Auto, Comand, BT Phone, Ipod,18k miles, Mint throughout (apart from a dodgy door lol, but that is being sorted )

What with the new C class coming out, I'm finding it difficult to judge it's current value.

Thanks for that, comes out at 18.1k as a trade in value on there, but does not take into account phone prep/comand I guess.

Comand + telephone should add around £700 to the value.....maybe a little more....but I doubt it would add anymore than a £1000.

Most extras do not alter the secondhand value by much, they just make it more desirable than one without, and easier to sell

If you really want to know the value as a part ex, or as a cash sale to the trade. or as a private sale, or what dealers would sell it for, there is no real substitute for the trade bible Glass's Guide. Go to their site and you can put in all the details of your car - including the extras, some of which significantly affect resale values (automatic adds as much as it costs) and some of which add little or nothing. Most major ones add about half what they cost. You pay about £3 for a full valuation but it is well worth it IMO. My local MB dealer has found the trade will pay about £1k more for a Merc up to 3 or 4 yrs old with COMAND than for one without.

Some dealers are very lazy and will value your car as average, from Glass's Guide, despite the condition and despite very marketable extras. Others are far more diligent and sensible and value condition , service history and 'good' extras highly. I have always found that if you go to several Merc dealers this accounts for a pretty wide discrepancy in the price they offer. Get the best offer and return round them all again saying what you have been offered and usually the others offer more too. Takes a bit of time but worth it. The links below will show what cars like yours are selling for:
The MB website searches all MB dealers and MB Direct.
http://www.mercedes-benz.motortrak.com/matrix.php

This site lists lots of MB dealers and others who specialise in Mercs from time to time.
http://www.used-mercedescars.co.uk

This shows asking prices of Merc's own retail outlet for 2nd hand cars.
http://www.directmercedes.co.uk

The guide the trade most use is: -
http://www.glass.co.uk

You can do a basic check with Glass's for free via Vauxhall's website http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vx/finance/valueyourcar.do

BUT it is not a patch on what you get from a full valuation on Glass's own site.

In my experience, the moment you pull out a Glass's valuation, the dealer tells you that they use CAP as their bible.

Traders often use CAP, it goes back to 1990 model year.
Professional buyers often use both and split the difference or ignore them and go on experience !
The cheapest price shown in the hard copy of Parkers is actually quite accurate for auction values and has the advantage of being free in Smiths.
The one to avoid is Wisebuyers IMO, some of the prices shown on the website are way out of line with the above.

Last time I p/x'd a car, it was a 5yr old, 25K mile, 1.6RXE Clio. Glass's valued the car in p/x as just under £4000. Several dealers (different manufacturers) used the same phrase - that the car "over booked". We couldn't get anywhere near the p/x value - some dealers were under £3K. Eventually we got £3,300 against a Jazz and thought we'd done well as Jazz wasn't being discounted then.

A better car can cost more, over the period of a few years that can balance out, Did I pay too much, dont feel bad this has always been the case, there is nothing you can do about it so dont worry and enjoy what you have. Most of those book values are OK on paper
