MOT test

If I bring a car in for an MOT more than 28 days in advance will I still be issued with a 13 month MOT starting from the date it was tested or do I need to bring the car in for an MOT 28 days before it is due to expire to qualify for the 13 month MOT?

no 13 month MOT. if you take it 28days before it expires you will get a new MOT dated from the expiry date of the last one.
Still 12 months.
So if it expires on the 1st of march, you can take it say on the 3rd of february and you will get a new one but it will start from the 1st of march

No, it doesn't. It starts on the day you take the test and but will not expire until 28th Feb the following year, unless it's a leap year
Feeling specially pedantic, I would also make you aware that it's not 28 days, but a calendar month you get

i never said it must be 28 days. the 28 days was an example i was giving. might as well have said 24 or 30 so be more pedantic.
it starts on the day yes but the expiry date will be taken from the end of the previous one.

I don't think you can, it is a maximum of a few days - how would you go with validity of insurance/MOT if a month before . I am sure I have tried it and could only do it 5 days before expiry .

Why not get it from the horses mouth:

Quote:
If the vehicle is tested within the calendar month prior to when the MOT is due, the test certificate will run from the date of the test to one year after the expiry date of the current certificate. For example, if the current certificate was due to expire on 1 April 2007, and the vehicle was presented on or after 2 March 2007, the certificate would run from the test date until 1 April 2008.
[...]

If the vehicle is tested earlier than one month before its due date, the MOT will only run for twelve months.

So presumably, you have to tell the MoT station that your old MoT expires in X days time for them to date the new one correctly, or is this now picked up automatically with the computerised system?
