Starting an Auto in first...
Was heading home last night and on a single A road that opened up to a dual carriageway had a car itching to get past. Road opened up to a dual carrageway so sure enough they blast past ( I was doing 60 so quite happy) Anyway not long had he gone past there was a set of lights on red so we both end up stationary he stauyed in the outside lane. I thought...mmmm should I try this starting in first method just to see. (ooh the car next to me was a Hyundi Coupe 2.7) no idea how quick but do look quite smart). He was edging forward to the point he was over the line, I just had my foot on the brake as normal but in first. Lights changed and wooooosshhhh the big barge seem to take on a new lease of life, I shifted up on the red line to 2nd then 3rd etc, Hyundi driver looking at rear of a big bus heading in the distance I was actually quite supprised, I know my bus probably isn't quick but it seem to really move? does starting in 1st just feel quicker Totatly pointless but I enjoyed it. Big bus makes me smile again |

It would probably have changed up sooner in D (unless you were foot flat to the floor i.e. in kickdown). Depending on the gearbox adaptation I guess (previous driving pattern).

Even if you had it in W if you had floored it , it would have kicked into first, starting in first is quicker than starting in 2nd. In S the shift points are later on full throttle

I've experimented too, and it seems the best getaways come from starting from 1st and letting it shift itself at the redline.
Sadly there isn't much opportunity to experiment on my way home from work - if I do it the C32 it will be doing silly speeds before I'm out of 2nd!! |

Have I got S & W is that sports and winter?
I'm still not convinced mine will change up on its own if I start in 1st and just floor it. I changed up manualy as I touched the red line?? didn't want to just hit the limiter.... An ML55 must feel nippy....
