Surely the consumption rate of the two fuels is different though.

From what ive heard the consumption and engine power goes down a little but if your are only paying about 37p litre it doesn't matter that much.Other things I have heard is you can get a grant to pay so much of the conversion,Also if you are worried about warrantys I think the people who install the LPG conversion offer their own warranty to cover any engine failure.Oh one last thing you can't take your car through the channel tunnel with the gas tank in situ.

relating info from other forums, I know Andy Gayle is less than impressed with LPG powered Mercs.
It may be worth dropping him a line.... info@andygayle.co.uk in the meantime - he voiced his opinion quite clearly on this thread http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=4482 HTH Andy |

Re: Autogas LPG Merc owners! (REPLY!)

Ok good so far, but the LPG has a lower fuel duty at present which is why it is cheaper, though the IR was going to scrap the subsidy this year and gave in to the LPG industry so has delayed...probably just until you convert your car. Also LPG cars have a lower resale value compared to petrol or diesel. You mention diesel suffering vibrations even at idle. This is when a diesel will vibrate, if at all, but not when under load. Also have you been in a 320CDI? Vibration is not a word you would use to describe the experience. You probably want to go for a petrol because they're cheaper 2nd hand. Fair reason but you should think why they're cheaper in the first place. |

I know a garage that carries out these gas conversions, they have trouble with MB conversions, they dont seem to run very well on gas.
Power output is about 10% less with LPG and fuel consumption is about 10% more when running on LPG. Saying that, I know somebody with an old S500 running on LPG and he has no problems, he also has no boot as it is taken up with the gas tank! |

Whilst at the service desk of a stealership that shall remain nameless I saw an internal memo from MB HQ which effectively said that under NO circumstances would they entertain any service request relating to LPG and ancillaries on a converted vehicle.
Biodiesel might be a better idea but one thing that took me by surprise is that CDI models do not seem to have a conventional fuel filter (the big metal can type). Instead they hav the cheap plastic one with a frilly paper element! |

I think it all depends on the system. There are now sequential gas injection systems around which run so that you just cannot tell the difference. We've had a Mercedes that has done >120k miles on LPG since new 2 years ago - saved a lot of money.

Probably better if you contact me off-list, I don't want to have any complaints about commercial activity! If you do, I'll answer you after I've had a bit of sleep!
