HELP: Advice on Service B - Mercedes Dealer

I have a 2001(Y) S500 which has done 19,000 and due for a service B in the next week. I also have the following which need sorting out:

1) Front Discs + pads need changing
2) Wiper blades very noisey and need replacing
3) Need Keyless go reprogramming cards do not work
4) Boot lid not opening right up smoothly

I wish to keep a MB Service History and need to find the best Main dealer in London/Essex regions, any recommendations?
Also I wish to try and keep the cost down as much as possible....

Will there much saving if I provide the oil? if so which Oil do I need for the W220 and how much?where is the best place to buy from?

If I get (1)Discs and Pads sorted out at the specialist I hope this can save some money, any specialist that people can recommend for this work?

Is the cost of (2) included in a Service B?

(3) and (4) I am hoping the dealer will do this for free, if not how much should I expect?Or should I not highlight these and get these repaired elsewhere?

I am concerned that I will recieve a big bill at the end of the service which will leave a big dent in my wallet, is there a anyway to ensure the stealers dont rob me?

Thanks in advance for all the help and advice

Item 3 you will need the Stealer to sort out.

Item 4 I would get specialist to have a look at whilst they do item 1 as MB labour rates are around £85per hr plus parts.

Just get the Stealer to do the B Service and stamp ur book. Wiper blades I am sure you will be charged extra on top of the service.

Supplying your own oil would reduce the cost but you will have to verify this with the Stealer which should not be a problem. 7/7.5litres should be enough but the Stealer should be able to verify how many litre are needed. Castrol Magnatec 10W40 is what I use and is recommended by the Stealers.

George Frasier located in Alperton is supposed to be good.

As for London Stealer, I found MB Stratford in East London very good, and also MB Canary Wharf....

Stay away from MB Lakeside, useless from my experience

The Stealer will charage you for the extra additional work i.e. problem with bootlid as that is how they make their profit (unless you have some sort exitsing relations with them...). They will def sting you for the keyless go card... replacement keys are rip off a sit is.

Thanks guys and keep the advice coming. I have been ringing around for prices for a B service and prices vary, finding some places not even giving me an exact figure which is off putting( eg MB Canary Wharf)

Prices vary for a Service B from £510 to £600!the discs and pads are very expensive and prob better getting them at the MB dealer if they have the wheels off during the service.

As for oil, does anyone know where to get Mobil 1 0W-40 cheap?

Be careful - there is a small sign about some emmission reducing service which they tag onto ALL services, a and b , "unless you tell us not to"...

Not much more, another £20 -- but that is a bit cheeky in my book....

This is what i do (not just for M-B but for all my car servicing).

1. Agree the service price in advance. Get the name of the person giving you the quote.

2. When booking the car in, write clearly the price you were quoted with the words 'INCLUSIVE PRICE NOT TO EXCEED £XXX AS QUOTED BY MR (whoever). Show this to the service person asking you to sign the work docket.

When collecting your car after the service, and your asked to pay for 'extras' you did not agree to then *do* pay up. But write on the receipt 'PAID UNDER PROTEST' and ask for a copy of the original docket and your receipt.

Write to the dealer principal, and tell him/her you will inform trading standards unless they refund the additional amount.

Sounds long winded? In the past 15 years this has saved me over £1,100 in service overcharging scams. Even the big franchises do it.

McLean & Appleton Mercedes Benz Macclesfield just did a B service on the E55 - cost £201.35

Replace 2 x 265/35/z18 continental contact (ie the rears after 10,000m!) - cost £360.

Is it cheaper up North or what?
