W124 Air conditioning

can someone advise what are the options when the air conditioning ceases to become effective - ie blow cold

1. turn it off
2. have it recharged
3. have a complete replacement unit fitted

im no techie but am half aware that due to environmental issues some of the above may not be easy or possible

thanks

mines not knackered yet but i need something to worry about this week
it is however less than perfect ie i wouldnt describe it as "ice cold" in really hot weather

Try having it re-gassed first, they should also be able to check for leaks as well.

My air-con probably needs a re-gas. It's cool but not cold if you know what I mean
It was struggling last week in the hot weather.

Have complete service, discharge/regas, pressure test for leaks, change receiver dryer and pollen filters.

No, kind of like a dead animal and not in a nice cooked way. Actually, if it smelt of meat, that would be worse as it would me even hungrier.

Once its on for a few mins its fine, but its really nasty. I tend to use it pretty regularly too.

A good service and clean should sort out the smell. Using it all year round will prevent it coming back.

So far I have been really impressed with the A/C on the 124. If anything its too effective. They are not hard to work on and any good specialist should be able to sort it out.
I think if its low on gas the EC light will come on and stay on.

Hi Steve, give Comma Aircon cleaner a google. I have used it a couple of times. The dealer does the same thing but charges over 50.
