Touring: MB World and the Cotswolds
Despite not having the shed, I had to use of my old mans car, a wee Toyota Rav 4 which was surpisingly good. I really liked Petes car from getting a lift back from the GTG. Really comfy and a drop top, fantastic for the Hampshire sun. Here they are ![]() Here is me with what I should have access to.... ![]() I've always loved MB world, the mix of old and new cars, as well as special things always impresses me. However, the quality of the newer cars doesn't. A poke around a 212 reveals the AG ones have better seating for some reason, but you can see a nasty thin wire through the air vents which moves the slats, non carpeted spare wheels wheels and a paint defect on a new C coupe was the failure spotting. The MB World successes. This ![]() and this ![]() I just love the gullwing. I really rate the F1 car suspended thing ![]() This gives me nightmares, but it has a sense of humour that many of the displays don't have . I'll link my album up, but these were the highlights.Anyway, after this I decided to tour the Cotswolds. I had aimed to do this in the shed but its not fixed. The wee Rav 4 it was then. Cruising art 70 is fine in this car, a bit noisey, and not the best leg room, but what the hell, its 1x more working car than I have. After an hour of driving up the M40 I came off at the Banbury turn and aimed for Chipping Norton. Driving through down is ace in this little car, great visibility and a 2litre turbo in something the size of a raised go kart makes it a doddle. It has about the easiest manual box I have ever driven. I dont often have to drive a manual, and thank god for that, but this makes it so ease. Only other car I found as easy for an auto lover was a MK4 TDI GT Golf. I stopped off at a Villiage ten miles from Chipping Norton and ate this ![]() Nom Nom!!! Took a stroll and snapped this ![]() And just for dieselman I found a Citreon C6 which I think would do him well ![]() Lovely local church.... ![]() After passing through here, I aimed the little car for Stow on the Wold and then for the two Slaughter Villages and gave the little car a rest ![]() Lovely part of the world actually ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After this I took some back roads to Chipping Camden. Whats really good about the SUV car is the raised seating position that affords great views round corners. This car also has full time AWD and made it handle the bends reasonably well for something with such a high CoG. Chipping Camden is one of the nicest Cotswolds Villages. Check this pad out ![]() The old market ![]() ![]() And the church ![]() Full album http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...1&l=44f45e9404 Last edited by st4; 14-05-2012 at 09:14 PM. No bother. I have access to another car, so even if mine is still out of action, I have methods of touring and then littering this forums with driving threads.
I did actually miss my Mercedes for this, but sometimes, its not the car that counts, its where you actually take the car, and what you make of what you have to drive. That little car allowed me to get to Ollies GTG, but also have a fab day out afterwards. For that, I was extremely glad to have the use of it. |

That's just plain wrong Steve. Mange Tout have no place on a roast dinner.
Great photos. We were in the very same area last weekend - glad you enjoyed it. |

Chipping Campden is a lovely part of the world. We've stayed there a few times.
![]() The last time was about six weeks ago when I took the opportunity to test drive an E55 at a garage in Chipping Norton, just down the road. I think I posted about it on here; it had big gaps in the service history and was crying out for oil. Edit: still for sale: 2004 MERCEDES-BENZ E55K Tip |

Nice bit of photoshopping Steve. You must have been very late home, not leaving MB world until 1500, getting to the Cotswolds, getting the photos AND a full roast dinner into the day before your drive back to haggis land.

I stopped off overnight. It was too much driving to do in one day, Mercedes or not. Made the trip much more relaxing and enjoyable on the return leg...

Excellent photos Steve..
Looking at them actually made me want to go there.. I am off to the Lakes this morning to drop off / pick up a Cello for repair... I have a feeling it will be the scenic route rather than the motorway..

Great pics steve, remember that SLS was only Ł124k as a used approved, I'm sure some decent monthly payments could be negotiated
![]() Had a great time during my first visit to MB World with you and Brian, thanks for the company. |

Steve, what an amazing post! I may sound dumb, but is mbworld an actual place near chipping norton? If so, my mum lives round the corner virtually. I'm gonna go visit her in a couple of weeks. I think it'll be a quick "hi and bye, mum" and then the rest of the day drooling at Germany's finest!
