2006 slk vario roof failure - MBClub UK

Hi everybody,
Has anybody else every had a vario roof module failure?
My wife's 2006 280 roof stopped working and the vario roof visit workshop light is on the clocks.
A star pc says there is no comms to the vrm and all fuses are ok.
Everything else works on the car except the heated rear window switch which lights up for a second or two and then goes out.
Any info gratefully received.

Identical problem (visit workshop fault just appeared one morning on entry to car on dash, only to find vario roof will not open and also rear window demist button lights up for a second and goes off when you want to operate it) on my SLK350. Any idea where/what to start checking myself?
