Free upgrade.

Had a letter from my next local dealer, they are offering a free engine upgrade on all C-class models. So you can order a C220CDi and get a C270CDi at no extra cost you can also order a C180K and get a C200K engine, but dont know why anyone would want a petrol engine.

They also say in the letter that they are desperately seeking older model C-class's just like mine (yeah right!) and will offer a great trade in.

Hmmm, might take a trip up to Leicester over the weekend, dare I ask if anybody knows how much a C220CDi (C270CDi upgrade free) Estate with Auto and Leather is new??

Think most stealers are doing this steal at the moment ... has been posted elsewhere !

C220 Cdi, with that spec, at a guess will not leave you much change from £30k !

Base price C220 CDI £24915
Auto £1000
Upgrade to Elegance SE / Avantagarde SE (to allow you to spec leather) £1200
Leather £1250

Total £28,365.

Or you could just go for the leather twin - which would work out about £1000 less, I think.

With my budget I could stretch to half that amount, that would get me a very nice, high spec, not very old Audi or a pretty basic Merc!

I do like the Audi's, test drove a 2003 A4 2.5TDi Quattro, very nice, tried an A6, OK but not very exciting.

I am looking to get an updated, newer model, I am looking at 2001 newer. I feel the W202 is looking a bit dated now, dont get me wrong it's a great car and am very pleased with it. I am a bit dissapointed with the depreciation on the 2 Mercs that I have owned.

Mercedes hold their value just like 99% of all cars - VERY POORLY I wouldn't say they are any worse or any better than other cars.

Talking

I've never lost a penny on any of my Mercs!

Gotta be the right way to go!

I love the thought that most people driving around in brand new boring cars probably lose more money on a yearly basis than a (sensibly chosen) few year old Mercedes does.

Cheers,

Will

I've only ever bought Mercedes privately.

And every one was owned for more than six months.

In October 2002, I bought a P-registered C200 Esprit, in black, with 90K odd miles, full MBSH, every old MOT, HPI cleared etc for £4650. I even got the seller to put a year's MOT on it!

Excellent car, had one service (circa £300ish) and a Mobil 1 oil change, and that was pretty much it. Sold in March 2004, with about 110Kish for £5500 (well to be nit-picky, £4500 plus a £1000 p/ex on a car that was sold for £1000)

I left a set of AMG wheels on it (obviously helped the sale and increased what it was worth!), but for what they cost me I could only say that it was fair wear and tear for tyres? Anyway, I still didn't 'lose' any money on the car.

Another one was my old 190E 2.3-16 (Cosworth). 1 owner car, 120K odd miles, FSH, best colour (blue-black metallic), 5-speed Getrag gearbox (the best and most popular!) all original - wheels, stereo, first aid kit, tools, spare, original bill of sale, purchase order, PDI sheet - the lot. Bought MOT'd/Taxed etc and in much better than average condition for the year - £1675. Sold after about a year for £2350. Spent maybe £3-400 on a few bits, but didn't have to replace any tyres etc, so for the use I got out of it, I was happy!

First Mercedes I ever bought was a 1986/D 190E 2.0. Quite a nice car, black with grey leather, 130K odd miles, FSH, long T&T. Lady owner for about 8 years who had looked after it well (last service was about £800 - valve stem seals etc etc) Had a nice Alpine CD player, MOT, tax etc. Just needed a new bonnet star and a rear electric window motor. Bought it for £800, had it for about 9 months and then sold it to a friend for £1000 (this was in mid 2002).

Current one, my 1997/P C230K Sport, 5-speed Auto, Blue/Black metallic, black leather, heated seats, A/C, AMG wheels (came with 17s, but it has 18s now!), Alpine multi CD, 80K odd miles when I bought it, full MBSH, originally owned by Mandy Smith (Rolling Stones!). Won't say what I paid, but I promise I wouldn't lose any money if I sold it after 6 months (I bought it in July!)

Last Mercedes I bought was for a friend. 1993 (one of the last of them) K-plate 190E 2.0 Auto. Good spec (4 electric windows, electric sunroof, electric mirror etc etc) VERY clean car with FSH, MOT and Tax, 110Kish miles, drove perfectly. You know the car - 4x new Pirelli tyres, nice wad of MB receipts etc. Bought early this year for £1000 exactly! I reckon its still worth more than that today.

So who says that you have to be rich to drive a Mercedes? If you are sensible, there are some very good cars out there.

Cheers,

Will

a friend of mine went to his local MB dealer with a 98k mile 203 c class to get a small electrical prob sorted and came out with a spanking E320 CDI based on a free upgrade from a 270 also has a full mb phone kit installed by mistake so got that free too. must be desparate to shift some stock as the trade in and finance deal was excellent. Maybe now's the time if your thinking of buying.
