Saw PAN 1 on a new Jag at Park Lane (I would have thought it to be a car of the Embassy of Panama, but it was spaced as PANI - whatever that might mean, perhaps the owner is Italian).

Saw CCC 333 on a Bentley parked near Downing Street, in place where no ordinary driver would dare park

A good year for personalised number plates will be 2057/47 - ie whichever year they release personal AK47 numberplates.

Am I the only person who would like one ?
AK47 DCJ for me. (my initials).

AFAIK, PAN 1 is indeed assigned to the Panamanian embassy. No idea why they would have mis-spaced it, but it's a safe bet they won't get pulled up for it (diplomatic immunity, and all that...)

I'm sure AK47 RPG will command a high price in Afghanistan...

It'll be 2047. The current system will only run until February 2050.

^^ The list is accurate enough (though not comprehensive), but the article is surprisingly ill-informed.

They seem to be oblivious to the fact that diplomatic plates are directly assigned to embassies and high commissions, so there's nothing odd about BRZ 1 never having been transferred onto a Northern Irish registered vehicle, nor does the fact that 1 KAZ had been assigned suggest that other numbers in that series will be issued.

The DVLA have free rein to assign any unissued combination of letters and numbers for diplomatic use, hence the appearance of plates such as QUE 1, QLD 1, 1 MZB, etc.

Saw "NGN 2" on an old daimler the other night. An old batty looking couple in the back waving at the riff-raff as they drove up Great Cumberland Place near Marble Arch..

Hmm, a royal car in Great Cumberland Place. Could it have been Her Maj on her way to visit Madge?
