I've been playing with my first Mercedes for the past 6 months, Nov 2001 CLK 200 Kompressor Avantgarde. Generally very pleased with the car, except sometimes wish, I bought the larger engines for more performance. Can anybody give advice on sensible performance modifications. I have tried Superchips and BBR and they don't offer upgrades for this engine. I have looked through previous threads and see multiple references to serial port upgrades, replacement chips, pulley changes. What are the best options, so I can research further ? Cheers in advance |

Why dont you just sell and upgrade, you could spend thousands trying to make it more powerfull..

Mark,
Jay is actually making sense, although it sounds like harsh advice first off. I upgraded from a '98 C200 to a '99 C230K, based on the fact I wanted the performance and it was the most economical way of doing it. The only way to get anything more than single figure BHP increases is to increase the boost. The only way I think you can do this is with a pulley. Research companies like Kleemann (probably the cheapest), Brabus and Carlsson. Expect between £1000 and £2500 for a complete job!! Sure pulleys can be bought alone for about £350, but there is all the work and I believe if it's not balanced 100% causes havok. I go through phases of considering a pulley upgrade as the next step C-Class for me is a C43 AMG - with V8 AMG running costs. If you really like the w208 CLK, there is the CLK320 or CLK430 to choose from. I'm sure you could trade for as much as a fully fitted pulley kit.

Sorry, did sound a bit harsh! But seriously, ive had two 320's and the power is great, its really a world apart from the 200. The 320 depreciates at a much slower rate too..

Looking for more power!
After enquiring about a Kleemann performance kit for my C200K (M111) I have just had an offer I can't refuse and would like to share it with you all. Kleemann are currently offering their kit for the M111 engine at £875 plus vat with free delivery. Estimated 200bhp 280nm for the 2.0 litre and 230bhp 340nm for the 2.3 litre. The KLEEMANN Engine Performance Kit contains a pulley set, high airflow filter and a K-Box plus a new belt idler and serpentine belt. From what I've seen else where it is a bargain buy, with the best quote from Birds for the Carlssen performance kit being over £1500.

I had a CLK200 (no Kompressor ) a few years ago and the performance was dire. Now having the 320, its supurb. The 430 and 55 would be even better. Plus with the 320 you get a far smoother engine/power delivery than with the four cylinder models. The 320's and 430's also tend to be better specced with options.Good luck.
