To keep you guys up to date, I spoke to the dealer today.

They confirmed the fault with the injector, & said that they're in discussion with MB as to replacing the faulty one, or all 4, but won't get an answer until tomorrow.

They also confirmed that they are still struggling to obtain replacements, as well as admitting that they have "quite a backlog" However, they're adamant that the replacements are a new design to eradicate the current problem. If that's the case, there's little point in changing just the faulty one, for one of the others to fail sooner or later.

No indications yet as to when I might be getting my car back.

E220 Cdi Sport
Purchased 15th October 09 New

Injector failed 18/12/09 @ 4100 miles

Loss of Power, EML light on, into Limp Mode

Currently in a CLS 320 Cdi, which is a beautiful drive.

Dealer unsure when the fix will be sorted. Already advised them, dont bother giving it me back until all 4 are replaced. Quite happy to rack up the miles up on the CLS.

but the most important thing i think for all you guys waiting for your cars is that that have catergorically said they WILL NOT replace my 220 cdi with ANOTHER 220 cdi... theyve stopped releasing both the C class saloon and estate and E class saloon from the production line untill its sorted ....makes me think this really is a massive problem ......

I guess that explains why the E220 CDI Saloon has mysteriously disappeared from the special pcp offers section of the merc web site.

That puts it into perpsective doesn' t it, pay £30000 plus for a car then can't trust it to get to the airport and back ( about 160 miles)!
A very good point indeed. It will certainly sow a seed of doubt in my mind, the next time I set out on such an important journey.

I am posting on this thread in the hope that we can establish the number of BE 220 and 250 cdis still running without having had injector problems! It certainly seems that mileage is irrelevant as poor old Pierrp had his fail at 7775 miles only a few days after posting on the other thread. If the car is BOUND to fail and it's just a matter of when then one could approach the rejection issue on the basis of misrepresentation as I for one am fed up with having to use another car for some trips when I simply cannot risk breaking down. Despite the useful posts from everyone I am still in the dark as to whether some people may be lucky irrespective of mileage and length of ownership or whether breakdown is inevitable. Perhaps we will never know! Certainly all these comments about the number on the injectors would appear to be of little comfort.
In short can all B/E 220 and 250 cdi owners continue to update us and let us have your experiences ?

How does one determine if there is a problem ?
the serial numbers of the injectors begin with either 09 or 10. If the 1st 5 digits is greater than 09319 then its a newer batch, any serial numbers beginning with a lower number like (mine 09148) will fail..sure enough 2 days after checking mine failed yesterday at 7700 miles...250cdi sport (OCT 09)

Just out of interest , did you look at your injectors and see the 1st 5 digits of the serial numbers...I would like to be able to see if we can find out a pattern to the faliures?
