Help W203 C270CDI Manual Problem

Today I have started to have a strange noise from the car. If i accelerate not to hard the car seems to drive fine but as soon as I put my foot down I get a hissing sound and the car doesn't accelerate as quickly as it use to. I have also started to get a bit of smoke on startup from cold. Any ideas

It sounds like you have either a split boost pipe, hole in the intercooler or a boost pipe has come off.

The car now only goes to about 2500 revs if you try to boot it . If you turn of the ignition and start it again it is ok as long as you do not use much boost. But if you try to use boost i get the air noise and it limits to 2500 revs again.

All sorted. It was noticed that there was signs of air blowing past the seals on the first cat. These were replaced with new seals and spring clamps. The middle cat was also looked at and was found to be blocked. They managed to knockout the honeycombe of the cat and empty it. It was put back on the vehicle and it is like a different car drives great. I was going to get a new cat but I think I will leave it as it is.

Pre 2003 diesels don't require a cat for MOT.

No diesel does as long as it can pass a smoke test, which it will as the Cat has very little bearing on smoke output.

I had something similar when the front cat felt fell apart and blocked the second cat, this caused the exhaust gases to be pushed back past the front coupling. When I had this problem it started as a hiss but within 15 minutes the car started to fill with fumes as the air con was on. MB had to replace both the cats.
