Gearbox problem - MBClub UK

Hi, I am new to the Forum and seek some help please.

I have a 2006 E class which sticks in a gear and will not change up or down mostly in 1st gear. I have to stop turn the ignition off and back on again. It will then work until the next time. Also it loses drive and you have to put it in Park and then back into gear. MB main dealer said it was the electronic controller, they said they would have to order it in from Germany and it was about £700.

As I do not trust my local main Dealer as they have told me “porkies” before and even though they put it on their test system has anyone else experienced this?

Firstly welcome to the forum. Secondly where are you located ? Theres a few good specialists on here who would be able to help at a lot cheaper than main dealer prices i'm sure. Failing that an auto trans specialist would be again better than main dealer.

We very recently had an auto gearbox specialist join (New Member) - why not ask an admin if you can send him a PM or email (Contact Us). Or he may see this thread!

I suspect the dealer is correct. It's a common issue on the 7speed gearbox.

Hi the car is going into fail safe & should have codes stored in the memory if you can get this info i will try & help you
