On my old 190 i tested it with a multimeter. It spiked very quickly at around 2v from memory and the faster i drove the faster the frequency between the spikes but the voltage stayed at 2volt'ish...was about 5 years ago though.

The reason the voltage stays the same is that the 'mark/space' ratio of the signal stays the same. This is the ratio between the width of the pulse (mark) and the gap between the pulses (space). As the speed increases so does the frequency of the pulses, but the ratio doesn't change. 2V implies a mark/space of about 1:6

What you need is a frequency meter. Some multimeters have a frequency function which would do the job.

Great job.

Now you need to tell it the tyre size and how many pulses per revolution it is getting. On COMAND the tyre size can be done from the unit itself but the number of pulses needs STAR. I don't know about APS though, other than it will almost certainly need to be done.

speed pulse generator for W123

I have been following this thread and can now contribute as I have found a solution. I have successfully fitted a Becker Traffic Pro to my W123 239TE and have the satnav working fine by fitting a speed pulse generator to the speedo head. It is sold by Sailes Developments Ltd in the Uk. It fits between the speedo head and the end of the speedo cable and is originally intended to fit at the gearbox end of the cable but as the merc manual gearbox fitting isn't threaded at this end it won't fit here. Consultation with their tech dept though advised that it could be fitted at the speedo head end providing there is room which there is just.
The model no is Hunter Speed Sensor 65H and their phone no is 01386 554210. Any tech queries select option 2 and speak to Matthew.
The Alpine NVE-K300 that has been mentioned elsewhere is I have found no longer available and no UK suppliers seem to have any stock left but this is a better solution apart from the need to pop the dash out which is quite straightforward and is covered elsewhere on the forum.
Any further queries I will try to help.

Retrofit cruise W123 230E 1984

Hello everyone. Picked up this topic whilst searching for methods to retrofit cruise to the above car. I see 'stever' says he did this to a 280CE. Any chance of a DIY or other pointers? I hae a number of local sources for stalks, but unsure of whtas needed at the engine end, and presumably need the speedo with the speed feed. I don't have ABS by the way.

W123 Cruise

Thx for that jaymanek. I'll have a look at the weekend to confirm mine has the speed connection. Any one any idea on what the engine control end requires?
