Pulling out SL500 cluster

I've got a wiring fault in the cluster and it needs to go back (just out of repair warranty) to "ClusterreapairsUK"
Does anyone know if there is anything special I need to do such as disconnecting the battery before disconnecting the cluster umbilical cord?

Thanks

Rob in Cardiff

PS Temp gauge winds up to max, occasionally, and sometimes stays about 40 degrees low, even with new sender/sensor (£10) and the fuel gauge is always on the bottom stop despite the 'range remaining' info being correct.

Presuming you don't need special tools to extract the unit, you shouldn't need to disconnect the battery.

However.... for safety's sake I would, as it only takes a few minutes.

I use cluster repairs a lot... coincidentally i have just sent one to them today.

Did yours fail after a repair by them?

Thanks for the replies, guys, albeit they are about 4 hrs too late.

According to Merc, you DO need to disconnect the battery to get the unit out or it will have a coniption fit and refuse to play the game after reinstallation.

The cluster came out about 2.5 years ago for a fuel gauge failure and the same has happened again. After pulling the unit to check the cable I found the warranty tag on the unit. ClusterRepairs keep records of every job they do and they traced the unit to being an exchange one sent to the Isle of Man!! Faked mileage?

In 12 months of ownership I have had 6 full days without defects.

Yikes! That's got to be a record. Where did you buy the car?

Mercedes probably say you should disconnect the battery to change a tyre...

anything to avoid a law suit.

Is it normally less than that, then?

It was up last year for £28000 on a forecourt but I got it for £19500. 35K on an 02 plate. 12 months RAC warranty (not worth even saving for toilet paper)

Soled!

Clusrerepairsuk.co.uk did the biz! £186 inc postage and the rewired the fuel and temp senders onto the main board. When I reconnected the batteries it said that the ESP was up the sh***er but this disappeared after a run up the driveway. I'm now just starting the 7th ever day of Merc ownership without an existing fault.

PS The boot has started leaking.

I got mine out to the post office on Thursday for a "before 1pm the next day" service and Clusterz said it arrived in the shop on Monday morning.
They had it out of the box and were describing the previous repair to me on Tuesday. It arrived back here at 9am on Saturday. Call it 8 days or 6 working days?

Centre brake light warning has come on. Stuck now on '7 defect-free days since purchase'.
