Fridge in boot will is zap my battery

Hello

As our little one needs a special diet and we are away in the car for a few days I've bought a little fridge for the boot. (small as in 6 cans small)

Plugs into the 12 v in the boot and on my car its live with the car locked nothing else on.

Now my question leaving this on for a day say, will this drain the battery or will the battery in the car be up for it? Guess its quite big in the car?

Thanks

I dont think a £20 solar charger will touch the sides. More like £200 to make a difference.

I had a fridge like that and when we went away we chilled it on the mains lead and the when we were traveling it was connected and disconnected it whilst we were parked.

we also put an ice pack out the frezer to keep it cold it worked a treat

What diet is you little one on?

Check the wattage of the fridge. Most use a *lot* of power and are only intended for use with the engine running.

If you're only away for a few days a normal cool box should be fine for 'chilled' stuff. Pre-cool everything in the fridge for a day before going and freeze as many cool blocks as will fit in.

Before I had a caravan I used to camp with just a cool box for dairy & meat stuff. Even in full summer it used to last 3 or so days before I needed to get the freezer blocks re-frozen by a kindly neighbour with a caravan fridge.

Thanks

Think I will do as Knu7s as £200 to charge the battery isn't great....

Our little one is allergic to Milk and most dairy products, yeast, baby rice, soya, and quite a bit of other stuff...

She's great though you would never know. She has special milk that smells like fish paste, truely awful but she loves it...

Picture from this weekend on the trains...

Would connecting it to a 'deep draw' caravan type battery be better?
I'm not sure car batteries do well being drained too much.

I also have a solar charger, but it's only 1W, some are 3W, but still not enough to power a mini-fridge.

I left a fridge on overnight on a w210 on the last night of a holiday in the south of France.
Got up early the next morning to find the battery as flat as a pancake, so I wouldn't do it.

Oh, and when you get the mechanic out for a jump start, "Ma batterie n'a pas un voltage" seemed to work, but I just made it up on the spot.

Would like to endorse this - pre-cool the fridge for 24 hours first on the mains and use those ice packs from the freezer.

Our one from Halfords (Auto Express Best Buy!) did use wonderfully when we drove down to my mums in Southern Portugal. Kept everything lovely and cold (cold drinks etc) and even my wifeys bargain whole Brie bought for pennies in a French supermarket!

If you have a mains adaptor with you, this makes life even easier as you can have it running whilst driving and when you stop overnight, plug it into the mains until next morning.

BTW, she is adorable!! Almost as cute as mine.....

Cheese in a fridge? Sacrebleu! Mon Deiu! What an abuse of good cheese! The French would be horrified. I was once told that a good brie or camenbert should ooze on the plate!

I recall the ex Mrs. Gollom and I driving up from the south of France one year with a fair amout of fromage in the boot. Got to Dover and we were one of the 'lucky ones' randomly selected by Customs for a spot check. Until I opened the window and they visibly recoiled at the smell* before frantically waving us through! Oh happy days!

*Top Smuggling Tip!
