Double DIN replacement for COMAND?

What do members recommend as a replacement for COMAND?

Must integrate sat nav, audio, steering wheel buttons and phone (MB pre-wire)

Pioneer avic units

Whilst searching the link, noticed that there is a good offer on with free installation on the F900BT

IMO, they have very advanced features, plus good sound quality, whilst not looking too tacky (for instance compared to JVC units)

On a tangent to this, I believed Pioneer were at the forefront of Sat nav technology in 2005 so bought an Avic S1 over £300 at that time.
Promises of updates for the software were only met once in 2006.

No updates followed that and despite numerous pleas by numerous other owners, Pioneer have in effect abandoned the unit which is now pretty useless with all the road mods and rerouting.

So as a previous 'Pioneer Fan' I have now abandoned buying anything else made by them, not sure how the software on the built in units is updated though but be careful as I know they are quite expensive!!

Something that I fancied doing was integrating a 'pod' to hold a fairly decent tom tom or similar, but not in the S Class.

As above...

The advert for the new Reno Clio has a Tomtom built into a dash pod..

Very good idea. As from what I can gather the sat nav part of command is still not as good as TT and if done right could look good.

I think that you can forget about steering- wheel integration. And NO display either on trip computer!

Apparently it is really hard to write to CANBUS.

Cheers

I'd put a MY09 HDD COMAND in (get one with DVD changer in it) - in my opinion everything else looks odd :-)

I *think* the CLC unit (being a W203) will fit. (PS, they came in a couple of months into MY09 CLC production, not from beginning of MY09)

MY09 HDD comand with full postcode input.

Your linguatronic will still work with it which an Alpine/Kenwood et al wont do.
Your phone pre-wire can be converted to comfort phone thus retaining the use of additional cradles plus all your dash display and steering wheel controls will still work.

I have tried a MY09 HD comand in my a class and it works well. The only thing that I didnt get to work, because I didnt bother as it is redunant anyway, was the Cd changer.

Most of the good brands have limited steering wheel/display integration with an optional adaptor

The top pioneer units have built in 30Gb HDD which can automatically store any CDs you play on it, plus has integrated voice comand, amongst many other features....

Hi Alfie,

What would be the best price for you to supply the parts for command to a 53/2003 ML? Also how much would you charge for fitting?
