Audio10 Sound cuts out

Hi all.
First post on here and thought I would pick some brains or if anyone else has had the same problem.

On my Audio10 in my 2000 CLK the sound will intermittently cut out and then might come back on later, it's driving me mad as I can't listen to music and then when it does come on it makes me jump out of my seat!

Its obviously not the volume control and it does the same on radio and CD's, anyone had the same problem or know what it might be as I on't really want to buy a new one By the way I've checked the plugs in the back of the radio and there all good.

Thanks Steve

The best thing to do with an Audio 10 is to get rid of it. They are very poor in the way of sound quality and performance.

Audio10 Sound cuts out

Same thing happened to mine recently. Took it to an audio specialist in Lee South East London who took it out with some difficulty, bench tested it for about a week and could fine nothing wrong. Put it back in and everything was fine for about 6 weeks and now the display has started to come and go again. Sound seems ok but waiting for it to play up again too.
What's the answer guys? Apart from around £ 900 to Alfie for Comand /new radio??

I'm pleased you have said that in a way, I've been thinking about it today and think the problem isn't with the radio (which backs up why it works fine on the test bed) I think one of the speakers is knackered as if one appears blown it will create a short therefore shutting the amp down in the radio. When that speaker moves (with maybe a bump in the car) the speaker coil might move hence freeing up the short circuit? I'm gonna try and have a look at it at the weekend and see if thats the problem.

But please if anyone does know what it might be then tell as I don't really want to do this investigation!

And mike you say about your display does it go completely or is it just really faint in the background, only ask as since you might of taken it out you might of damaged or loosened one of the back light bulbs which lights up the display (hence why the LCD display maybe really faint) happened to me on an old car.
