In the dark

On my 2003 s320cdi the light for the ashtray doesnt work can someone tell me how i remove it to get to the bulb? also when i open the doors the interior lights dont come on, I know the bulbs are OK because they work when i use the switch, i thought maybe it was the switch on the door shut not working and although i havent removed one yet it seems strange that both door switches would be faulty anyone got any ideas please, tia Chris

Iirc light sensor in screen tells car its dark enough for the lights to be needed?
Also i think you can switch them on and off with the ceiling switch back one on the main overhead cluster on wifes w203.

Yep, same on W209.

Got a bit concerned about my lighting until I realised that little "feature"
