W211 MY 2009 Media Interface...

Does anyone know what this does?

More specifically with an audio 20 with CD changer and media interface factory fitted?

Would like some info if any additional cabled need to be bought? will there be something in the glovebox already waiting for cables like the bmw USB interface?

Thanks

Yes, you did find the correct cables. I thought you found the UMI kit from Comand Online but they seem to have the MI cables too.

We have just put the MI cables in the shop because we're just working on a MI retrofit kit for W204 C and for MY09 cars
- just having trouble finding the lead from the MI controller to the glovebox hole !

If you specify the Media Interface, then you get a socket in the glovebox into which you plug either
a) 1 of the 3 leads in the Media Interface Cable Kit - the leads include 3.5mm aux, iPod and USB
b) The lead that goes from the Media Interface to the iPhone/iPhone3G cradle if you have one of those

There are 3 different versions of (a) depending on your car (difference is the way the cable comes out of the connector!)

The W204 Audio-20 does not support the Media Interface (according to Mercedes - yet to test the truth of that), but the MY09 Audio-20 units in all the other cars do. (the ones with the green and red phone up/down keys and the built in bluetooth)

Thanks for that , ive got a 2009 MY with NTG 2.5 just now and have just read the manual that points towards this site for info http://www.mercedes-benz-mobile.com/ Looks like the Media interface with the usb attachment supports a 2.5" hard drive sounds ideal. 250GB of music here we come lol

Thanks for your help Richard , no doubt ill be in touch for the cable pack in due course.

p.s. blackberry bold works seamlessly with the NTG 2.5 APS

Interesting pic on that page and comment regarding 3 different types of MI cable kit?

I see the cables in that pic have right angled connectors for the glovebox socket - the cables I have are straight (which is a bit of a pain as it restricts what you can fit in the glovebox without risking damaging the cable/socket).

I've only used the iPod interface but it works very well. Looking at the packaging for the MI cable kit, it looks as if the aux cable acts as a video/audio input if your headunit supports that?

Sorry, the pic in ths comandonline shop for all of them is the W164 picture which has the right angle connectors.

The other models get straight connectors - not quite sure why

Its definetly not a video input - theres no video connection from the Media Interface to the head unit, just fibre optic which they only seem to use for Audio.

Can you post a picture of the connector in your glovebox ?

Cheers

Richard

I'll add to my comment anout 'its definetly not a video input' - it does sound like it will play video files from a memory device, but i dont see how it would take a video feed out of a video device

Im going to contradict myself - I now have part of the wiring harness from a SL, and it has a coax lead hanging off the connector that appears in the centre glovebox - suggesting it could well have some video connection (but direct to the COMAND rather than via the media interface itself)

I think the AUX lead bypasses the MI anyway - in the menus, if you're using iPod input or USB, you select the Media option (disc0) but if you use the AUX lead, then you select the AUX option at the end of the list?
