EZL Unit - Repair possible? see ebay link...
I may need to replace my EZL ignition control unit ( there are still some other cheaper things t test/replace before I give up and try the EZL!) and given the one i have seems to go for around £350 2nd hand, I wondered if anyone had seen the above link before? it appears to imply that they have a way of replacing this item? Has anyone heard of this before? Cheers Simon |

Interesting post! The advert does imply they supply a replacement unit they have developed themselves? However they just show a picture of an original unit- Perhaps this is just to help identify what you need to replace? Perhaps they put new innards in the old one? They do say you need to be able to solder a bit and read diagrams? Usually on these units its the power transistors that go due to poor heat sink contact. The thing that's difficult to duplicate is the control/map side so maybe you are expected to change chips? Maybe its only the older style connectors you have to move to the new unit for connectivity to the cars existing wiring plugs? Just too many questions with not quite enough answers. This may simply be due to poor advertising technique but a bit more detail plus a couple of "how to build" pictures would help their sales I feel. I would be inclined to E mail them with some specific questions. Sometimes these companies will send you a copy of their install instructions free if you ask. Its an interesting proposition which could be a godsend to older w124 owners in the future so might be worth pursuing a bit for extra info.
I should say its new to me.

Indeed, the thing that is at the back of my mind relates to something Malcom (TV) once said, in that these EZL units, whilst espensive, actually only contain about a fiver's worth of parts!, given this, perhaps the Ebayer doesnt want to be too open given he's charging Eur 400 for perhaps the knowledge rather than the actual parts value themselves? after all if they have done the research to solve this, they can reasonably expect a return.
I shall follow up (handy having a couple of staff who are German speakers!) and post anything usefull I find.
