06 C220 CDI Coupe Comand installation

I have a few questions. I am due to pick up my 06 C220 CDI Coupe this week and would like to look into installing the comand system. I have read that it is relatively straight forward.

The car has a phone antenna on the rear window as it has the mercedes phone kit. Does this mean that there is already a gps antenna built into that or am I going to have to install one? If it has will the connector be behind the existing stereo?

Will all the wiring be in place for the install or will I need to modify it at all?

I've seen a few units for sale around the £500 mark does this seem like good value or will it depend specifically on the part number? Am I right in thinking that because my car has the phone that I will need the comand system programming to recognise it?

I'm a little wary of taking the dash apart on my new car. Has anyone who has done this experienced any annoying squeaks or rattles since having the dash apart?

Sorry for all the questions in my first post but I have read around and couldn't find any reference to the gps antenna being part of the external phone antenna for this model - although I did see that they seem to be one and the same for the ML Class.

Thanks very much. Great pics. It still looks quite daunting. Im hoping against all hopes that the gps receiver is already there so its just a case of swapping the units. Fingers crossed someone can tell me if this is the case.

Had comand fitted a couple of weeks ago to my girlfriends coupe.

Thankyou Alfie & Richard

If you live near Surrey, these are the guys you need to speak too.

Agree with Wobbly - Alfie and Richard at www.comandonline.co.uk fitted mine - and they can do all the required star coding too....

Thanks very much for the links. Would either of you mind giving me an idea of how much the installs cost? I've had a look on ebay and this seller seems to have good feedback and it looks as though he's done it for around £750 fitted, in the past.

Does this sound reasonable? Obviously I'll want a quality job for as little outlay as possible.

If you are going to get someone to do it use Comand.co.uk as everyone suggests. If there are any hitches they will have the knowledge /parts to sort you out. Fitting it yourself is not too difficult if you are used to modding but you still need a Star machine to code the car/cluster. HTH

To be honest, if you want a quality job then buy this from billy-Whizz

Its brand new. He is throwing in an antenna with it too. All you need then is a navigation disk and someone to isntall it

You wont get a brand new comand installed and coded etc any cheaper anywhere!

Hi Alfie. Can you confirm that the following part number will work with my car?

A 211 870 71 90

Will I need anything else other than the map disc? Any wiring harnesses etc?

I was going to PM you but I don't think I have enough posts to be able to do this yet.

Thanks. Neil

Nope. That is a W211 E class head unit. It wont fit and wont work in your car at all.

You need an A203 part number. I really do suggest you buy that one from Billy_Whizz. Its a gem.

Thats odd because the picture is of a W203 comand not a W211 head unit and the title of the thread says W203. I'll contact him and let him know;
