Comand replacement :)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/7-CAR-DVD-PLAY...iendlyZ1QQpvZ2

Seems to be perfect for me:

1. Windows CE so possibly TomTom + many programs out there for WinCE... (biggest plus for me)
2. TV-In so I can connect via TV-OUT my HTC Touch Pro
3. DVD, DIVX, MP3
4. Bluetooth for phone
5. TOUCH SCREEN
etcetc...

I want to clarify one thing- I'm not interested in TV/DVD in motion!

Cons:

1. Possibly poor build quality (cheap)
2. No integration (?) with volume control on steering wheel.
3. Strange illumination colours - not looking nice

So, everything looks OK but as I don't know many things I'd like to ask a few questions:

1. Is it easy/possible to remove Audio 10 and plug this in? I mean all speakers, radio antenna?
2. How can I connect steering wheel controls (volume) to this radio? Any chance of doing that?
3. Anything else I should ask?

Is there anything else on the market with simillar specs? As you know, I do prefer TomTom (now with whole EU as one map + POIs + SpeedCams warnings!) and I'd love to have TT. Comand while it's nice, doesn't do what I need (no full postcode, no speedcams warnings etc).

Cheers
Chris

Current MB navigation unit run on Windows CE (on the W204 and W221 at least, I assume the NTG2.5 too). You still cannot run external applications like TomTom. The eBay item does not seem to support external applications either, at least I did not find anything mentioned about that.

every wince can be easly hacked so I'm not worried about that
I'd like to see steering wheel integration as a option! I'm hoping that Richard Miro or Alfie know about those things

Thanks!

I've read stuff on people doing steering wheel integration on carputers buy canibalising a USB game pad and connecting to OEM steering wheel buttons.

I did not take into account that you are a Linux/Unix expert and then would know Windows stuff too, I'm afraid it would not be equally easy for an average MB owner. Do you actually have some pointers on these hacks, some useful personalisation done somewhere? Say run a browser and make it use the phone for internet connectivity.

The steering wheel buttons don't do any intelligent stuff but insert CAN-bus messages from their control unit. I guess you could just hack a CAN-bus adapter and interpret those messages on a WinCE application?

Well, I'm MCSE:S+M I'm using PDAs/PNAs for last few years so I know about them a lot! (I think so). Also, I'm doing AS/400 administration and networking stuff. I used to do hacking but not anymore. Had some problems but nothing ever proved.

Most hacks are done with ActiveSync or other direct access to the device.
I haven't seen MB new sat nav but if there is a way to connect an laptop to it then their must be a way to hack it. Camon, it's only windows! Pretty much every windows can be hacked - especially having physical access...

Yeah, that's a good idea! I'm not a developer but I think that possibly I could get those messages decoded.
This device has USB port which means everything is possible

Cheers
Chris

I think I might bite the bullet and actually order one!
(I'm getting married in May so I have to check with soon-to-be-wife if that's OK as we are saving money to buy a house )

Cheers

Congratulations in advance, I'd suggest making the purchase soon, later on it may turn out to be a lot more difficult.
