COMAND Nav Questions

Please excuse me if these Q's have been asked previously (I have had a brief look through previous posts) but as a 'Newbie' on the site I may well have missed them!

I have a Feb 2005 E55 with COMAND system inc. TV etc (not sure what model exactly).

I have just installed the latest 2008/9 Nav DVD and was very surprised to see that, having previously used TomToms, there is only a 4 digit postcode input (although from reading other posts here I gather this is normal).

Having put in what I can of the postcode and selecting each of the suggested villages in turn, my road is not listed. HOWEVER, when I select my road with the cursor, it correctly identifies it, meaning it IS in the database.

My query is: Is this normal or do I perhaps need a software/firmware update or am I doing something wrong?!

Also surprised that there isn't a 'Home' or 'Current Position' softkey.... or again, am I missing something?

All (polite!) suggestions/comments gratefully received.... thanks!

What year is your disc? I had similar problems until I upgraded the disc to the latest one. To be fair I still do occasionally but can usually find the destination by ignoring postcode and searching on the town or village then the road.

You should have the option to "Save current location..." on the main navigation screen.

You can also choose Info/Location map, to show your current location.

Thanks for your thoughts Roger.

It's the latest MB disc for COMAND APS ...2008/2009 compatible with E class 03/02 to 06/08.

I've just tried your method of putting town in ignoring postcode but still no joy, also no "Save current location" found on main nav menu. Think something's missing somewhere!!

Cheers
John

I meant the TeleAtlas Disc, is that what you mean?

My COMAND is 2.5 so earlier than yours, the Save Current Location and Location Map (to show current location dynamically) are there but in different places. I don't have access to a later COMAND at the moment but I'm sure someone will be along in a minute to tell you where they live...

P.S. Did you see what I did there?

Disc's got MB official stuff all over the front cover and seems to be produced by NAVTEQ, part A211 827 21 65 (or B6 782 3887) v 9.0

I have a March '05 E320CDI with COMAND, although with V5.1 maps.

When at home, press one of the 'soft' keys - the ones on each side of the screen - and one of them will direct you to save the current location. You can type in your own description of said location - I used "Home"!!

Once you have done that, every time you need to get home, press the NAV button and you will be presented with some options including "Enter Destination" and "Destination Memory". If you select the latter you will see your saved locations. Select "Home" and away you go.

Regarding streets which seem to be missing from the selections, I have seen that a few times with mine. I never got to the bottom of it. Best to find a location via AREA, TOWN, STREET, etc, rather than the crap postcode option. Why MB have not remedied this by now is quite frankly shameful. I used to have a Navman portable, which was also mapped by Navteq. This never had any issues like the COMAND system...

Good luck!

So if your keys are stolen whilst you are out shopping or somewhere else, the thief can then go straight round to your house (thanks to your Comand) and nick stuff there too!

I always advise customers not to save anything as 'Home'. Just use the normal address. In amongst a load of other addresses, you know which one is home but a car thief would have no idea Just a tip.

Thanks for the advice chaps.... I seem to have cured the nav problem quite by accident! It may be coincidence, but I re-selected the Country (although UK was still selected by default from the previous disc I hadn't actually done it with the new one). Now it will give me any local lane from the selection process.

Thanks for the 'Home' tip Alfie.... certainly worth a thought! Still a bit confused re the COMAND / iPhone thingy but will get back to you on the correct thread later!!

Cheers
John

That's an interesting tip about reselecting UK. I guess I've only done that when re-entering the country from abroad and thus switching from a navigation disk for another country, which I haven't done since updating my current UK disk.

Thanks for the tip, Alfie.

I have obviously led a very sheltered life - that scenario would never ever have crossed my mind!! And with the estate version as well, they'd get a lot of household kit in there too!

I suppose the same goes for all the portable navs which are always getting nicked from cars - while the poor owner is busy in the middle of town phoning around for glass repairs, the scrote responsible has a guided routemap to the owner's unoccupied house...

And its worse than that, my alarm installer told me that the police requirements for new monitored alarms now require the alarm to be switched off with a physcial tag rather than a code - so the tag is on your keyring - so s.o.e has taken your keys, driven to your house, let themselves in, turned of alarm and emptied it !

The reason for this is apparently because too many people forgot their code and set the alarm off - even though other reasons mean that in that case they wouldnt get called!
