Central Locking playing up

My ML won't lock /open from ther fob despite replacing batteries, yet it will lock from inside using the console switch. Does this mean its the FOB or could it be something else?

Thanks for any help.

Or it's gone out of sync with the car

Resync by:
1) Getting in and closing all the doors.
2) insert your key in to the ignition cylinder
3) turn the key to position 2 (ignition on - do not start)
4) turn the key off & remove
5) press & HOLD the lock button
6) press the unlock button 5 times
7) release the lock button
8) press any other button on the remote

Don't feel under any pressure but you have ten seconds to get from 3) to 8)
