DAB - One for the audio experts...

According to my Audio 20 booklet (pg 27), it supports DAB reception. The entry is marked with a * indicating it's an option. My question is this, is it just a case of enabling that function using an MB diagnostic tool or is additional kit required (eg DAB antenna). Cost indications appreciated. I'm happy to pay any reasonable cost however experience tells me that the word 'reasonable' seldom applies to main stealer audio upgrades

It's no big deal, just seems a pity not to make use of the function if it's effectively there...

Cheers

I take it you have a Model Year 2009 (ie very new) car.

DAB needs a DAB tuner and a DAB antenna and a load of wiring done. as far as comand/audio is concerned, its just another accessory like a CD changer on the car's optical audio bus

Yep, it's a MY09. Sounds like it's a lot more involved than I'd hoped. Oh well, I'll get by without it.

Thanks anyway for your input everyone

I only use the dab in mine for the talk stations, FM VHF is far better for sound quality on music anyway.
DAB is poor in the UK as they cram loads of station into the allocated bandwiths, plus the technology is OLD, MP2!
A far better system could be on the way! AAC, Just when we kinda got used to DAB , long way off though....

I had DAB in my last car (Saab 9-3) using only an aerial convertor box and a Blaupunkt headunit. Reception was much much better than FM, always perfect, in fact I drove from Reading to Wales without a single dropout or loss of quality. FM is capable of better quality but is far less consistent than DAB and you have to put up with retuning as you move between transmitters.

I just got my first Merc today (C350 SC). Has anyone tried one of these:
Acoustic Solutions DAB-ICS100 DAB car radio

I think I'm right in saying the Audio 20 system in my car has an Aux input it could be wired into (?).
