Tomtom Go 920T £199!
I was just wondering if anyone owns one of these units and can give me advise weather or not this is the best in the price range. It comes I believe, with speed camera, and TMC included and seems to be good value. Any advise or comments would be appreciated before I commit. Thanks

I've got the older 910, which cost (IIRC) about £350. We use it for going to Germany and back - fantastic bit of kit.
TMC is normally via an optional plug-in receiver, and I think the reliability of this service is somewhat variable (although it costs nothing to use). You may possibly be getting the TMC receiver bundled, but I suspect more likely it's the TomTom Traffic service ... which is different. This picks up data via Bluetooth from your mobile phone (which in turn downloads it from a TomTom server using GPRS). TomTom Traffic and the speed cameras are often bundled together - these are both normally annual subscription services. There's a new TomTom 940 out now which retails at £450 RRP. This may be why you can get a good deal on the 920. In summary, for £199 I would definitely go for it. |

At £199 it a no brainer what a bargain>>> I use a TOMTOM ONE all over the world including USA, Canada, South Africa and mainland Europe and it's never failed me once in 5 years. I subscribe to TOMTOM traffic but use Pocket GPS world speed camera daabase for the counties I visit much more accurate and user friendly

as far as i know, any model with a "T" (for Traffic) means its bundled with a TMC receiver, it picks up local traffic alerts and re-routes as and when it picks up an alert.
I have the 520T, the traffic thing is great! works a treat! Even if im travelling into central london, knowing where I'm going, i have it handy just to get out of traffic! The Traffic subscription service, im not too sure about, but yes, as far as I know, it uses your mobile phone's GPRS connection. With TomTom, you usually get a year's free sub to the Safety Camera locations, but there are many people who use cutom POI files and add them to their device, its just a location of a camera, but doesnt actually say what speed limit it enforced, just that there is a camera there, try some googlin' But, again, agreed, you cant go wrong for £199! |

ive got a 910 and having just used it in the US , id say yes it is useful but with the way the US roads are with virtually no notice for turn offs and canada's weird inside lane's disappearing into offramps going in the opposite direction without warning i would plump for the 930 with the gantry view 3d thing.
if the budget allows. |

It always takes me a while to get used to the European motorway/autobahn on/off ramp styles. Doesn't help that we normally arrive in the dark! And that they vary from country to country.
I've only been a passenger in the US (driven by locals), so not paid much attention there! |
