W210 key and fan
The ventilation fan seems to vary speed whenever it feels like it, is this normal, it seems to be getting worse but I cant be sure? |

I thought this post was addressed to me?!?!
Is your key the flick open type or the infra-red type? |

fan speeds
Mine did the same. Changed blower controller (no need to take the fan right out. Takes about 15mins. £150.00. A few months later it started doing it again. Changed part again (FOC warranty from dealer). So far so good...If it ain't then it has to be the air con ecu and if it is, I'll live with it. But so far, it ain't.

It could be the power pick-up coil or some other "big" component losing soldering contact to the circuit board. I would open the key and have a look, if you have a multimeter, you can check or just resolder the joints that look like having an issue.

Always worth a go. I managed to fix two keys like this. Just pop out the battery module and then gently pull out the circuit board (there is a plastic strip at the bottom edge that holds the board in, so unlatch that first). Have a look at the pcb for any bad joints. If you don't have a multimeter just resolder the joints on the main components.

Took the key apart and the coil was moving on the board and one of the wires was broken from the coil to the board. I tried to fix it but no joy, would it be worth buying one of the keys on ebay and trying to replace the broken coil with a new one? It seems the consensus is that the keys on ebay aren't programmable.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll take a chance and order a spare key on ebay and try to change the coil on the board, I'll be back with my tale of woe / success.

Got a phone repair shop to refit my on/off switch in my nokia and that had tiny joints so maybe worth a word it was a small independent shop, cost £10
Told me they used hot air as opposed to a soldering iron. Lynall |
