SAP Bluetooth compatability

Hi all, I know similar questions have been asked but I just want to confirm before I spend £200

My CLK (2000) has a phone cradle but I believe at some point has been upgraded to hold the Nokia 6230. I tested it with a friends 6230i which worked but not via the steering wheel which ultimately that's what I want or I may as well continue to use my manual wire connection to my N95.

Will a Bluetooth SAP connect into my phone cradle and allow connection to my N95 and enable me to use all the functions my steering wheel offers and is there any specific model or version I need?

I've also seen the MBU-1000 ViseeO and wonder if this is the one I need?

Thanks.

No I'm afraid neither of the things you have described would work to achieve what you would like. You've got a Nokia car kit fitted to your car as opposed to a fully integrated Mercedes Nokia handsfree kit - as such you couldn't connect a Viseoo or any other Bluetooth adaptor to it, this is also why the buttons on the steering wheel don't work.

I believe there is an aftermarket module that allows the steering controls to work with aftermarket handsfree phone kits.

I'll try to decipher the above, took me some time but I guess A-AvantGarde figured out that a MY2000 car cannot have UHI and if it has a kit supporting a Nokia 6230, it cannot be the MB OEM kit but an after market kit?

Thank you for the responses but i'm not really much further in figuring this out?

A-Avantgarde: Have you any idea which aftermarket unit I should be Googling/ebaying for?

Diesel Benz: What's a UHI? The origional one must have been an OEM one as my steering wheel and the base unit of the phone cradle are factory fitted. The actual cradle appears to have been changed for the 6230 cradle which does work but just not the steering wheel buttons.

Would it be an option to put back to being the origional fitting and then use a Bluetooth or ViseeO and if so where could I start looking?

Thanks.

Almost all recent Mercedes (including yours) have the steering wheel controls irrespective of whether a phone kit was fitted.

The base unit / console you refer to is an original MB part but could have been fitted afterwards (I had fitted one of these on my A Class and on a previous shape C Class). The only sure way to confirm whether a phone kit was fitted from new would be to enter your VIN number onto this site:

http://old.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng

You'll get back a list of option codes which should show all of the factory options your car had. If your car had a phone kit it may be possible to replace elements of it to allow you to use a Viseeo. From the picture you have shown I doubt your car was factory fitted with a handsfree kit.

UHI is an abbreviation for Universal Handy Interface (Germans quite often refer to mobiles as Handy). Post 2004 Mercedes changed the factory phone kit to be UHI (this allowed end users to simply choose the cradle they need rather than be tied to a specific handset).

Hope this helps...

As for what to look for to solve your problem - have a look for Nokia Bluetooth car kit or Parrot Bluetooth. There are lots of bluetooth solutions out there but these two are better. As to how you can get them to integrate I don't know as I have a Merc factory fitted kit. I know some members on here have had some luck getting an interface module that allows you to pick up & hang up phone calls from the steering remote.

I have a Nokia CARK 91 kit in both my van and the car, and when I got my N95, I bought off of Fleabay, a CARK 11 Bluetooth Convertor. It wasnt cheap at £35 but works a treat and my only complaint is that the blue LED on it is very bright for night driving, but a piece of black tappe has solved this.

Fuzzer: thanks for the suggestion but I already have a Pioneer x1 still waiting to be fitted.

Toolman1954: Does my existing one look like or use the same connection as the CARK91 kit? So all I would need to do is fit the CARK 11 and hey presto i'm all done?

Hi, A-**********e above, has suggested that youhave a Nokia Cark 91 kit fitted, perhaps you could either take a pic or look on the back of the handset holder for MCC-1 for confirmation that it is a Nokia Kit.
