Unhappy 2002 CLK rear number plate lights

Having thought both number plate lamps had failed I discovered that there was no 12v supply to either of the lamp holders. Suspecting a fuse had blown, the leaflet in the fuse complartment indicates that the number plate lights, along with a number of other lights are 'electronic'. Does anybody have an idea where I can look to re establish the 12v supply ??

Everything else in the car appears to work O.K.
