iPhone bluetooth

My (old version) iPhone paired perfectly with access to phone book, last dailed missed calls etc. But, since last weeks iPhone software release, all I get is a connected, but no phone book etc.

Has anyone else experienced this - any ideas around it (i.e. is there a setting somewhere I need to change?)

Thanks for any help

I have a 3g iphone and it doesn't work at all with the sap module. I also found on the apple forum that the bluetooth is very poor only pairing with some headsets and not others.

The problem according to www.comandonline.co.uk is the HFP bluetooth unit. I tried my 3g phone in a BMW 118 today and that downloaded the phone book, last numbers all OK. I also found a Garmin satnav unit that did the same thing.

MB really need to get their act together. However there is an active cradle for the older iphones for cars with UHI unless you have a MY08 W211 then it wont work. So I can't get one. nor the HFP so I am stuffed with regards the iphone and MB.

Works great as an ipod with the dension kit though.

Hi

iPhones do not support SAP so wont work with the SAP cradle. This is not MB's fault, it is Apples lack of support for SAP (only Nokia really have SAP support in everything. So MB released the HFP cradle for use with phones that dont support SAP.

As to iPhone download - The problem is not the HFP bluetooth unit. The problem is Apple's V2 software does not function with many bluetooth systems including the Mercedes HFP - but not all as you have discovered. I suspect/hope there will be a software update from Apple soon. Im sure some senior execs at Apple have Mercedes :-) The HFP unit is not s/w upgradable (unlike the ViseeO MBU-2000)

The iPhone active cradle will work in the MY08 W211 ... it wont work in MY09 with the new hard disk based / internal CD/DVD changer units.
- But I suspect it will also have the download issue on V2.0 apple iPhone software ..
[Edit, the MB iPhone cradle is cheaper than the MB HFP cradle - but it will *only* pair with iPhone, and I havent tried it with a 3G one. If you are anywhere near Ascot we can try it and see - pictures here http://www.comandonline.co.uk/produc...cat=252&page=1 ]

Hope that clarifies some stuff !!

Richard

Richard. Would this cradle work in my 2000 W215 retro-fitted with the UHI phone controller you supplied?

Hi Richard,

Thanks for clarifying some stuff.

According to MB latest handout that I got from a dealer last week the iphone cradle will not work with MY08 W211. The parts department guy confirmed it as I thought I could go that route.

I understand that most of the bluetooth problems are Apple. But if the V2 software on the iphone works with two different products from other manufactures then surely MB have an issue too. As I said it works fine in a BMW 118d(1 year old) and with the Garmin( 6 months). So it can't all be Apples fault and MB are stiffing us again. I have heard that Apple will have an update before Christmas.

I'm about an hour away from Ascot, but will be away for the next couple of weeks with Work.

HI
The document I had from Mercedes about the cradle said it stopped working with MY09, which makes sense as thats when the head unit changes

Theres no difference between 07/08 E class in the electronics, but thats when they scrapped the top tray for the phone kit and put it upright. From my memory there is enough space for it there.

Email sales@comandonline.co.uk when you get back and one of us will meet you and try it (whoevers not on holiday) if you like

I do agree with the HFP point re-software - but its hard to write software against future changes - and given HFP does work with almost everything we've tried it suggests that Apple have done something thats not in the bluetooth spec and so it isnt quite compatable with everything any more. FYI viseeo seems to work but get some of the names twice according to our suppliers tests !!

Cheers
Richard

The compatability list suggests only MOST cars not D2B. So I suspect you get echo ..

Sorry to be dim !!

Just so I understand correctly - the MB HFP won't download the phonebook AND the Comand Online Iphone Cradle also won't download the phonebook ?

Looking to get a 3G Iphone - hence the question

Version 2 of the iphone S/W seems to have a bug in that it wont download the phonebook with an HFP. It worked fine under Version 1.1.4. The 3G iphone requires and comes with Version 2 so until apple fix the bug, no a 3G iphone wont download the phone book.

iPhone software version

Have any of you with the iPhone 3G upgraded the software to Version 2.0 (5A347) ?

Some phones, especially the early ones, shipped with Version 2.0 (5A345).

You can get this new version by restoring your phone on iTunes. I did it and I now have 5A357, but I don't have an HFP bluetooth cradle to test if the phonebook will now download.

In order to find out what version look in Settings -> General -> About -> Version

Hi guys i can confirm that the 3G iphone works fine with the iphone cradle, phonebook works etc, as does the 2.5G iphone with latest software.
The lead on the cradle is for ipod funcionality on NEW cars fitted with a new option, universal media interface. it is a socket inside the armrest.

Hi, just to pregress from what Richard and Alife have said.

The ViseeO MBU-2000 will now work with the 3G iphone - full phonebook download.

The ViseeO MBU-1000 (i.e fixed phone cradles) will connect and you can make/recevie calls but no phonebook download. This issue is being looked into.

Hope this helps some people
