R129 rear fog lights - only on drivers side?

Last night the dashboard warning light for a blown bulb came on and I went round to check them all. Found it was a side repeater that was just a bit loose and fixed this no problem, but I noticed on the rear only the drivers (offside) fog light came on. Went into the clusters and found that there isn't the wiring in situ (a black wire and silver bulb terminal) on the passenger (nearside) in place as it is on the drivers side to allow this side to work.

Has anybody ever adapted or modified this to allow both rear fog lights to work? I know you hardly ever need to use them, but along with reversing lights on some cars, I like them both working just for symmetry. Where would you get the little silver bulb terminal from and is there a part number for this? Is there any uprating of the fuses required?

Thanks in advance

In theory it would be easy to do, however not sure if the additional lamp would upset the bulb failure system?

hmmm I hadn't thought of this, good point. It would be a fairly simple adaptation to the wiring so could be easily taken out if it did upset the bulb warning system. I'm not sure how those systems work and if it wouldn't just recognise the wiring and bulb as a spur to the existing, so to speak

The R129 is approved for towing, so I would hazard a guess that the lighting circuits would take a little additional load OK. Bulb failure warning is normally triggered by lower than expected current, AFAIK.

Edit: single reversing light would bug me as you'd see it all the time. But I don't think I've ever used the foglights on my SL other than checking that they work OK.

As tail lamps are not made differently for LHD/RHD then all you need is to run the wire from left to right, the bulb holder etc is already there and you could get the pins etc from the parts counter.

There is a foglamp on one side only for a good reason: so it's not confused with the brake lamps.

Fog lamps annoy me in all but the foggiest of conditions. I saw three cars yesterday with their rear foglamps on and it wasn't foggy at all, nor had it been for days. Five minutes of additional perceived safety and then a week of annoyance for everyone else.
