Such a relief...

Since buying my W124, a lot of electrical stuff hasn't worked, including:

-Right tail light
-Headlamp wipers
-Both number plate lights
-The Buzzer when you open the door with the lights on

I had looked at the fuses and visually they looked fine, I had tested the bulbs with a meter and they were fine too.

At this point I was convinced that the car had serious electrical problems, and that I may have to shell out £90 a piece on new headlight wiper motors.

Today though, as a last resort I decided to check the fuses with the multimeter, and the fuse for the circuit that the problems were on didn't seem to be working, even though it looked OK. I replaced the fuse with a brand new one, and everything now works fine!

Always check the fuses properly

Thanks - and just to confirm, it is actually a well know 124 trait.

Revolve the fuses in their holders every year.

Moisture/condensation tends to gets into the fuse box.

Probably spraying them with contact cleaner would help as it should stop the corrosion.

Scotchbrite pads are good for cleaning the fuses & fuseholders

I've had similar gremlins based on the old crusty fuses and simply replaced them all. And now everything works

Total cost £1.50 from my local Auto Electricians. Hardly seems worth bothering with cleaning them. And now I have lots of spares.
