Where can i get electric window switches for W124?

Hi all,

I'm having trouble with a few of my window switches in my 1990 w124 saloon. I need to get hold of a drivers switch (with the one touch function), plus two other switches that fit in the console, that control the rear windows. I've taken them apart and tried to clean them up, however they seem to be work out.

Has anyone got any idea of where I can get them, or perhaps someone has some spares that they would like to sell me?

With the warm weather approaching, it would be nice to open up the drivers window, especially as the sunroof won't work at the moment either!

Cheers

A very hot Ian

Try ebay for W124 spares, or dronsfields (but best to go pick them up yourself rather than getting them to post) or The Garage in Bacup.

Except ebay, you're going to need part numbers when you enquire.

Have you considered the possibility that it may be that your window motors are at fault? Try the front passenger side switch in the driver’s side, I am assuming you’re front passenger side window is working as you exclude it from your list.

The might not be that expensive from a dealer, a phone call will answer that or of course a scrap yard.

Hi Dec,

The front windows are working, but the drivers one touch switch is temperamental and only works on the one touch mode, when it wants too.

The two rear switches on the front console are pretty shot, although the two rear windows are not lowering, from the console switches or the rear switches. I'm assuming that it's an electrical problem, as it would be quite unlikely that both rear windows would pack up at the same time.

When I push the buttons for the rear windows in either direction, i can hear a small click from the electrics and if the interior light is on, it dims slightly, so I assume power is getting to the motors.

Could the rear window motors be stuck from lack of use? Would a 'delicate' tap from a hammer to each motor be worth a try?

I misread your post, sounds like it could be switches, I would still try a swap of the front doors switches just to make sure.
Re the back windows, both can give up at different times but when you discover the fault you automatically assume that the packed in at the same time, usually if the are not in use very much. Have a look at thease two threads for a C180 but same idea.

Window trouble

EDIT; Very unlikely you have 3 faulty switches.

Of course, the problem maynot be the switches themselfs as stated above...

Cheers Dec, I'll take a look at the posts.

You're right, being 18 years old, the windows have had a fair few years to pack up independently of each other. What's the best way to test if power is getting to the switches / motors? Do I need some kind of electrical tester?

If you have a mult- meter or 12v test lamp, I had to replace all 4 motors over the last 3 years on mine, do the test in the second link in my last post, you will get some kind of movement from the motor if you undo the 4 screws as described. You could try takeing the motor apart and clean up, I did that and the motor worked o.k. But I have never fitted it to car so has never been put under load over time.
If you have the time it is worth a try.

FYI: the front switches are different to the rear ones on the console

The motors are rarely at fault - but I have plenty tucked away if you need one
