Where to pick up 12v from

Recently bought a Cheetah GPS Mirror and would like to hard wire it into my ML. Can I get the power from the overhead light console? If so, assume that this would be a continiously live 12V. Where is the 'closest' or easiest place to take a switched 12v from. Would it be easier to take the 12v from the overhead console and make it switchable myself?

take 12V from light and install a switch in between.
but don't know if it is ok to use this supply

I guess the overhead control panel would be closer and easier to feed wires from. Is it a 164 car? That one at least has both switched an permanent power at the overhead control panel. I assume this device would not draw a lot of current, then it should be OK.
